60 degrees in Iowa this weekend

It’s a fucking Heat Wave! @Rusty and @John , what do you guys think I should throw on the smoker this weekend? Haven’t heard much out of either of you this week! I have a 20 lb brisket, 11 lb pork butt, a few racks of ribs and a chicken. Been craving ribs, but any of them are delicious!

Funny thing is, its been 50 a few times the past week, and all our beautiful snow on the ground and ice on the lakes are depleting slowly but surely, BUT that means the rivers will be filled with the run off, and I love doing some trout fishing in rivers.

Damn It been on this cleanout project on the farm haven’t had good Rich food in a while but some how I’ve gained. I’d just about kill for a slab of ribs

All of our snow is gone too, however our rivers and streams are nasty AF with runoff from hog farms… North Eastern Iowa, up by @Rusty neck of the woods, still has some good clean water, but not much else of the state…
If I had a big enough smoker, I would cook all of it, but I’m thinking it’s going to be ribs! The brisket may wait until may when our middle daughter graduates from college

Damn. That sucks about your waters bro. I don’t think I could handle that. I love the water

Me and my girls playing in the runoff last year. Wasn’t much of a runoff but was still fun.

Yeah, our waters suck… farmers sustain this state, but the livestock farmers have ruined the waters. When I still ice fished there were only 2 bodies of water near me I’d fish out of, otherwise you couldn’t pay me enough to even get in the water, let alone eat a damn fish out of it

Nice pics @Rusty last summer we were on a big river in my area had the kayaks, fishing poles and such, and my daughter asked if she could go in mine, so I kick her a mini lesson broken down barney style since she was only 9,it was a slow spot near shore she was doing great, then turned wrong and by the time she fixed it, the swift current got her,so in I went.

Hahaha Barney style that’s funny. I can’t see you acting like a big purple dinosaur for some reason. That would be scary AF seeing a
Nine year old getting in a swift current. Good thing dad was close by! :+1:Rivers can be so dangerous. The River we were in tourists and sometimes locals drown in every year cause the undertows I’d like to take a couple canoes down that river during runoff and do a camping/fishing trip. My only reservation is we never know when higher water is coming from up stream or if they need to open the dams up more without notice. It’s fine if your in the water but if your sleeping on the shore you’d better be up high.

Yeah that would suck, and high ground is always a good thing in my book.

I’ve had this happen on a river camping trip. We weren’t set up yet thank god but I said I think that the water is getting higher and quickly. It was strange to me but half our camp would have been underwater had we set up in the original spot. I had no idea that the water could change that fast at that time.
It was a fun trip down river the next mourn though with the water rushing.

Haha hell yeah that’s fun stuff. Man rivers can be nasty and they don’t discriminate. I can’t imagine being miles from any roads or people and getting stranded and wet and cold as all the gear is floating down stream. Hope I never have too. The runoff is from the fields and farms. Rain or melting snow all go to the low areas (rivers) and take everything with them. Spring is the worst because you have all the melting snow and the spring rain all in a short period of time so the runoff is massive and all the manure goes with it and the waterways get filled with ecoli and whatever chemicals are on the roads fields and in the ditches so it can cause mass pollution in waterways. Farm runoff is bad. Unfortunately there isn’t much ways of getting around it. We need our farms.

Shit from the livestock farmers… their drainage runs it to the creeks which feed into the rivers. And Chemicals from the crop farmers all spraying pesticides and such on their crop… they’re all owned by Pioneer, Syngenta, Monsanto, etc etc, so they have to use their seeds, and their sprays… it keeps the state going, but it’s pure poison

Fuck the seed companies. Them are some greedy ass mofos right there. They can take all there GMO bullshit to hell with them as well. Probably why I can’t eat products made of wheat without bloat and feeeling like poop. I was told that when they modified wheat to get a higher yield it Also increased the gluten by 25 times. So eating a sandwich has the equivalent of our great grandfathers eating 50 pieces of bread(at least as far as gluten goes).
