My friends.

It’s been a strange year and some change full of… well… change haha

I’ve barely been in the gym for over a year. It’s been the occasional drop in pump workout here and there. However, it’s been body weight, alpine hikes, and treks in the snow. Im hovering around 225 lbs give or take a few. I’ve been on 200mg test weekly. Diet has been prioritize protein, but don’t say no to pizza and beer (looking at you @TBU )

I bought my first camera in February 2023, and it has gone well for me so far. I’ve been in galleries in New York City twice, Portland Oregon, and Miami, FL. Snagged some spots in a few magazines along the way too. I’ll be focusing on prioritizing both the gym and the camera moving forward this year, I believe they seem
To be the balance of opposing forces that keep me in my best state.

To be honest I never thought I’d be able to spend that much time away from the gym, but I did… and I loved it. My joints feel great, my legs are a lot smaller but at least my knees don’t hurt!

About two weeks ago I found myself craving the gym, the hard work, the exhaustion, the burnnn. So I listened to my head and went back. Two weeks in and I feel really good. While I think the time away was needed… there’s no other mental peace and clarity like the one after a brutal training day.

I’ll be picking back up my previous training plan, intending to stay with light weight high reps… but we will see how that goes. I would love push pull legs, but 6 days just sounds like a lot right now. For now we will call it upper lower split?

I’ll be upping test to 350 and adding in 200 of Mast.

@Poppy you have permission to tell me to quit being lazy and log my damn workouts.

@Dirtnasty and @Poppy i appreciate your consistent check-ins over the last year. You two are just plain ole good dudes and im proud to know ya.

I’ll throw up some pics when I get the chance. Happy to be back.

You’ve broke the code at an early age.

A true renaissance man…that’s a good thing. Work hard play hard…relax/recharge … wash rinse repeat.

My opinion only….6 days is a lot of gym time unless you absolutely don’t have anything else going on or are laser focused on a competition of some sort.

Maybe, loosely, go through your split with no regard to days of the week. Need an extra day or two rest… take it… feel extra sparkly great… go back to back…this has worked for me, my body AND my head. For me it takes out the drudgery and makes it fun.

Good on you! Beer and Pizza are great for your health and well being! After my double hernia operation a couple months ago I was really digging light weight/volume training. So much I have incorporated into my new workout routine. Ive gone to 4 days training. 3 days off and I love it. Join pain is at a minimum now. Take care of yourself. We only have so much time on this planet. Make it worth it. 😅 Glad you are back! 😅

Thank you gentleman!

@Poppy I like this idea of a split much more, and it provides much needed flexibility for “life” as always, you are so appreciated.

@TBU you live rent free in my head over pizza and beer 🤣🤣 every single time I partake in said combo you pop into my head.

@Aude_Aliquid_Dignu i just thought it was pun intended.

Personal opinion and selfishness @Dirtnasty … I would like to see you bust 2k without knee wraps…that’s a heckuva feat that a very small percentage of folks dead or alive can actually claim.

For the record and yes I’m bragging… I know I haven’t seen all of @Neuro photos but I’ve seen a bunch. Enough to realize that he will hike to BF anywhere to capture nature’s spectacular show.

Thank you sir! You are too kind! I’ll share some when I get settled down into work tonight.

I really didnt go for more them 2 weeks at a time since my quad and pcl tear in 2020. My temple, i never stepped away, i saw the atrophy and i always pose after a set or two.
By myself just because thats what i do. I dont go in middle gym😲. I couldnt do it. I did a couple travel assignments thinking ill have nothing to distract me. Yea, bitchy gals that think they are neuro surgeons 1 year out of school. About a month ago i finally got back on track and muscle memory is still there. Dont worry. Plus, i have such a stash of meds. Still got to add to! Gonna be ahem 53 in April and smaller but shredded. Well , maybe june lol, anyway. Just doing some agency work and training. I noticed such a difference in the way people treat you, hands down when your busting out of your scrubs or they are hanging off you. FTW, I watch my tests and get yearly echos. This yearaorta and kidneys , bladdder too. That doesnt mean i wont drop but its good to know that my aorta isnt bulging or my heart EF isnt 20. A lot of the inflammation markers we did too. I gotta say maybe im clear but i dont say im safe. I definitely dont look at it like ok lets stop everything , im lucky. Gotta have the gym gotta accept the body dysmorphia! Better then being at home or work having panic attacks. Good to hear your back!!

My goal is to feel good. As hippy as that sounds. When I approached 250 I didn’t feel good. Everything felt slow and heavy- rightfully so.

I’m going to follow a progressive overload of high reps and volume and adjust to what feels good.

I’m trying to start with a more blank slate mentally. It’s hard to reach an alpine lake at 14,000 feet elevation when you’re that size, so I want to feel good and strong while still being able to do the things I want to do for photography comfortably.

That’s a very long winded way to say: I’m playing it by ear and coming at it from more of balanced mindset and we will go from there.

Amen to this. It’s been an interesting mental ride accepting what I see as a very different physique. Others say they can’t tell I basically took a year off. Just two weeks back in the gym and I can a difference in the mentals. Knowing I have something to be disciplined about kinda gives me a little chip on my shoulder. Just have to make sure it stays balanced.

I was nominated for the people’s vote award, in a competition by the Re-focus photography awards. Voting closes on the 8th. It’s a series I shot out at great sand dunes national park as a storm rolled in! Go help a fellow meat head out if you feel so inclined!
I couldn’t load the high res images here as they are too large.
