Over the years I’ve noticed that the weather channel has carved out its own niche of groupies and has its own way over the top dramatic headlines.
My wife is a “weather bug”… she follows it and has her own electronic weather station (Christmas from me years ago)… Jim Cantore is a “hero”…etc etc.
They’ve invented their own terms to grab everyone’s attention…”bomb blast cyclone”…REALLY!
I live on the east coast in hurricane alley…. It’s been years ago when I lost all respect for the weather channel folks. One of the hurricanes was bullseye’d on us and all the news trucks were caravaning in for the death and destruction. It was probably 6 hours or so before it was actually on us. Cantore was reporting from our beach (full rain gear hood up) with great description and drama… bracing his self against the deadly wind and surf… one of our local surfer dudes went casually strolling past him in the background in boardshorts with a beer… apparently he was in the area 50 feet away with minimal rain and wind. Hahaha
Us locals are watching him spew out this apocalyptic report on the weather when at the time it was a minor rain squall.
Afterwards they’ll film one of the three gas station signs that blew down…. Ohhhh the humanity of it all. There was a water spout that tore up one travel trailer at a campground and the way they filmed it…it looked like Falujha or Chicago(crap hole). Meanwhile the poor folks that actually got flooded from the storm surge are forgotten about. Our municipality’s around here are terrible at keeping up the drainage…much like Louisiana sucked at maintaining their levees.
I said all this because weather is a concern and not to be taken lightly but there definitely is a line that can be crossed with inflammatory predictions.
Everyone knows that Mother Nature is not to be trifled with and yields great destructive power but come on…really…Cantore is a hero…. Just can’t make this up.
