All,
Here is an update on my journey back to fitness. I previously was very active into my late 20s but fell off due to quite a few life factors (not using this as an excuse).
Here are the keys that worked for me to get in shape and drop the dad bod (265 to 200 lbs).
Resistance training is...
Here is essentially a before/after pic dating back to early 2021. Went from 265 to a current lean 200 or so. Biggest change was the focus on resistance training and secondly cleaning up the diet, specifically removing processed or high sugar foods and eating protein at weight or at or slightly...
Good times! I just got back home now from a now regular annual trip to a lake on the border of KY/TN. Crushed the fishing and ended up with so many largemouth bass and a good handful of rainbow trout! Will post some pics in a new thread soon.
Yep can’t ever beat the outdoors. I’m not a runner/jogger, but will occasionally put on a vest that weighs up to 60 lb to increase intensity and heart rate. Other than that I just crank my indoor treadmill as steep as possible.
Morning! Hope you all have a nice weekend. Went for a 4 mile brisk walk this morning and watched the sun come up. Starting the day off this way really puts me in a good mood and mindset that lasts all day. Now to decide breakfast.
Haha yep! I can basically eat (though that is arbitrary) how I want with a diet that works for me to put me at 10% or a bit slightly under. Hitting 5-9% has historically very difficult for me. When going that low, I am confident others can relate to this (especially competing bodybuilders) is...
I also typically shoot for 1g protein per pound regardless if on or off. I think keeping protein within this range may be even more beneficial when in a deficit to help minimize muscle loss when restricting calories. Depending on your overall calorie target, having a bit more isn’t going to hurt...
Welcome! Those are some nice numbers as is, regardless of age. You’ll definitely like it here! 😎. Do you consider yourself as primarily a power lifter, bodybuilder, or a combination of both?
I’m in my early 40s and consider my style of training to be more heavily towards bodybuilding (higher...
I’d also echo not getting into “fat burning supplements” and probably gear at this time. From my experience, while cardio is important you may be doing it too often and/or most likely too high of intensity. When burning calories from cardio it will always be a combination of carbs/fats. So if...
Yep they are awesome and much better than the standard ones I’ve always used. The leather piece that sticks out is just enough where all you need to do is wrap it using your fingers around the barbell/dumbbell. Tight enough to get all my reps in without my grip failing. But also at same time not...
Just got my Versa Pro Grips. Tried them out briefly and they seem to be exactly what I’m looking for. No more struggling to get that second wrap tight by using one hand. Doing both deadlifts and barbell shoulder shrugs shortly, so will see how they really perform when doing heavy/high reps when...
Yup the main other thing I typically go cheapest is iron weight plates…after all weight is weight. I don’t do Olympic lifts at the moment so no real need for bumpers. However I did splurge a bit since some Rouge deep dish 100s and 45 lb pairs were on sale as they just looked so cool. Aside that...
Yeah going middle ground is usually what I gravitate to when there are multiple options. There is always that saying “buy once, cry once” though the wraps aren’t crazy pricey.
Any significant difference between the Versa Grip sub types? Regular, Pro, Extreme…or is it more of a way to get more of your money? Don’t use them too often (usually just for heavy high reps shoulder shrugs and higher rep deadlifts) so thinking the standard would be fine and a nice improvement...
