Advice on when to start back shoulder and chest after injury

Okay so about two and a half weeks ago I was helping a friend raise a 40 ft 2 x 6 frame wall he already had OSB board on it we started to lift the wall got it about chest height my collar bone popped I went to the doctor and they said I fractured my collarbone and tour couple muscles so I just been working my legs and my core at home but I really really really want to get back to doing it all it’s driving me crazy
 
I’d see if I could have it looked at again. Hard to just go off time. Everyone heals different. I’d at least give it another two weeks. Then see how it feels. Go from there.
 
Don’t take injuries lightly I made that mistake my whole young life. I would say give yourself some rest continue with the legs core and cardio that’s great that you didn’t quit completely.
I would make a second appointment or even just call the doctor and ask him for a ballpark figure. He would probably know best but I bet you could even Google how long does a collar bone take to heal and you could just go by that just take it easy because a collarbone is so easy to reinjure ive broken mine multiple times and each time it has happened it seems like its even easier to break or fracture again.
 
I agree, when I was younger I always worked through injuries, never listened to my body when I needed to rest, and I pay for it now.

I wish I knew then, what I know now, but I guess that goes for everything in life lol. Take it easy, maybe try some real light reps just to get blood flow to those areas, but if you feel any discomfort, don’t do it.
 
I am no doctor but I have seen quite a lot of musculoskeletal injuries over the years as a medic. Ballpark for a Fx is like 6 weeks- depends on the bone and location, how severe the fracture was, your health, do you get rest, blah blah blah… (a full fx of a femur is way different that a hairline fx on a fibula).
The certainty is if you start too soon you will have issues for the remainder of your life.

I tore my bicep tendon completely- fully ruptured the the long head of the bicep. It retracted and now I have a huge divot in my arm, reduced strength forever, and lingering pain in the area along with a 70% full thickness rotator cuff tear. The rub is this was coming for years because of numerous injuries (heavy snatches and cleans) that I never let completely heal and developed in-balances and weakness in areas.

Any longer I am overly cautious- age has tempered the fire a bit and I hate being hurt anymore. Now I take my time and when I’m hurt I let myself heal before getting after it again. When you do start- start slow- accept you will lose some strength and size, pain isn’t necessarily a bad thing, and don’t over do it. One old mans .02
