Yes. Some good info out there on it. I wouldn’t say it is a PPAR, I believe it more so acts as one. So for a a true diabetic patient this is an important distinction. But for longevity what we need to know is it helps with blood sugar as well.

As with everything I say. Do your own homework, and research before doing anything. Determine if it’s something you personally will benefit from. The more we learn from actual sources the less bro science we pass around!

(Rusty this isn’t directed AT you. Just a disclaimer in general)

Did you get a script for it? I fluctuate with BP now and then on the elevated side, since not being an avid runner anymore, but not sure how I’d go about asking for a script if Doc doesn’t think I need it, and I can’t write it myself.

You should always be able to talk to your doc about a medication you wish to receive. Present him with the information regarding longevity and overall health. Cardio. Renal. Blood sugar. Related to a diet that is higher than average in intake it’s something that would be preventative health.

Your physician is like any other service you pay for. You should get an equitable trade of goods and services.

You could always do something to increase BP at the doc, and have a log of several weeks showing elevated BP’s. Voice your concerns and then present info on the med.

Sounds like a plan! I just hate pulling the “we’re all in health care”, can you prescribe me this. But, you are correct on the fact that we all pay for a service and pay our damn insurance premiums.

Ahh I keep forgetting you’re in healthcare!! Mannnn pull that card. I do it with our ICU docs and antibiotics and zofran all the time.

It’s one of the few perks we have haha either way. It’s good to have a plan if you aren’t gonna pull the healthcare worker card.

In today’s world, I cut out the prescriber when I can. This isn’t ideal for everyone but I know what I want and how I want to keep my body running. Today’s healthcare doesn’t give a flying fuck about longevity or preventative health.

Shit. My test was 360 I think and two separate docs wouldn’t even consider trt even though I don’t want kids etc.

Yes…I received a script. I made it pretty clear to him that I’m knowledgeable about medical issues and wanted to start this. He agreed.

Looked up a lot of differences between Losartan and Telmisartan via trials etc. and preferences with each of the ARBs via providers. I honestly don’t do family practice, so it’s interesting to see the benefits of either. Based on reading, it looks like Telmisartan (Micardis) has the slight edge due to not having to titrate up to the higher dose less frequently in control of mild-moderate hypertension.

Thoughts on benefit of the Telmisartan HCT (hydrochlorothiazide) combo @NeuroRN ?
Do you think the low dose diuretic has benefit for us meat heads with water weight, fluid retention, etc.?

I personally think it may be worth the squeeze, as long as you don’t go too crazy dosing wise.

I think the angiotensin blocking will control most of the bloat we experience.

I’m personally not a fan of diuretics. I guess if you could get higher dose telmisartan with a lower hctz it might be worth it. I personally will be going with telmisartan starting low and raising as needed.

Good to hear another opinion versus just what my Family Practice buddies say, because that’s what they’ve prescribed most frequently by habit.

I agree and was going to go with the lower dose Telmisartan, as well and like the fact that it has solid results at a set dosage longer term than others, so you don’t have to go to a higher dose too soon.

Now, I have used some Lasix as needed over the last few years, but not for any hypertension daily basis thing and whatnot.
