Any recent trout downrigger success at Dale Hollow?

Called the marina we will be renting a houseboat and pontoon and the lady said she hasn’t heard much about how the rainbows are bitting. I have a mounting bracket that’ll fit perfect to attach my downrigger where I typically fish the channel 45-70 ft deep using silver/gold spoons or rapala bait fish lures. Curious if anyone has been there recently and how successful they have been. We used to go every year for a week mid-summer and typically caught at least 6 3-6 pounders. Grilling rainbow trout that fresh is amazing. However, last time I went (4-5 years ago), the person selling the license to add trout was trying to discourage us as they heard from many fishermen, they are catching crap (we tried anyways but came up completely empty). Still going to give it a try regardless. For those that don’t know, Dale Hollow Lake is on the border of KY/TN.

Rainbows around here generally like water in low 60s. If you can find those temps in the water column that’s what I would look for. You would need a temp gauge to hookup on your down rigger if you have one. If water temps are 60s on surface run a high line 100 ft or so straight behind the boat.

Try different lengths behind the ball on the riggers. Shorter means faster action longer slower action.

Also if you have lead core line you can use that behind the ball of the riggers it sinks deeper then the ball so it is more stealthy for the fish.

I have also had a lot of luck using pink for bows. Maybe throw something pink in your arsenal.

Let me know how you do. Good luck brother.
