Donating blood or plasma

So I am up for it being my time to donate blood again, and was wondering…
I know how good it can be for your body when you donate a pint of blood, but is it just as good for your body if you just donate the plasma? Or just stick with donating whole blood?

Steroid use can create an increase in red blood cell counts and leads to blood thickening which tends to express itself in an increase in blood pressure. Plasma is the fluid part of blood. Donating plasma only will compound this problem. Whole blood donation is recommended.

I have a Biolife center right next to me, so am also curious if you or anybody knows can you donate blood there or are they strictly plasma only?
  • Edit * they finally answered the phone and they do not do blood donations only plasma, so count them out, incase anybody was wondering the same thing that I was!

Funny thing is I just scheduled with them for tomorrow at noon… they had an appointment today but I couldn’t drive an hour away to do it. So I found one closer for tomorrow

Only thing I couldn’t find on their website is what I need to bring with me…I tried emailing them but still haven’t heard back yet

Health benefits of donating blood include good health, reduced risk of cancer and hemochromatosis. It helps in reducing risk of damage to liver and pancreas. Donating blood may help in improving cardiovascular health and reducing obesity.

Every-time you give blood it’s almost like giving your body a good ‘spring cleaning’. Your body has to produce new fresh blood to replace the blood you just gave.

Giving blood is the simplest and easiest thing you can to lower RBC and hematocrit levels

yup and Im all set to donate 1 pint of whole blood tomorrow at Noon. My last donation was back in July so im def due, especially before I start this new training program! 🎉🎉🎉
