How do you relieve muscle tension?

So a few months back I went in for a deep tissue massage. The lady was this older German woman who used to work a lot with body builders and she beat me up, but it felt great. She pretty much worked on one area the whole time and told me I was insanely balled up and tense all over. Said she could have spent days on me and I really needed to be coming back more often.

She explained to me, which makes sense, that all we do all day is tense up and tughthten out muscles, but most of us never do anything to stretch and release them. Totally makes sense.

Well lately I’ve had a TON of tension in my neck, back, shoulders, etc. I’m debating getting a package and starting to go every 2-3 weeks. Maybe more regularly at first then more of a maintenance schedule.

My question… does anyone get deep tissue regularly? Has it actually made a difference or is it a waste of money? What about cryotherapy or those fascia stretching?

Trying to learn what people use and what actually helps. If anyone has actual experience I’d love to hear.

I get deep tissue massages and sports massage therapy done quite frequently with my girl

Helps with movement and rom and it sure as hell feels bomb as hell

This is going to sound crazy but a couple of my buddies have membership at planet fitness they have hydro table massage units. The first time I tried it i had just killed myself doing one of the hardest back workouts following my buddies routine.
I spent a half hour on this thing. I felt like I didn’t even workout when I got off of it.
I was amazed! !

i know this thread is a few months old, but have you tried epsom salt baths by any chance? Epsom salt baths and myofascial release therapy did the trick for me. After a while i landed up only needing the baths. Hope you already have everything sorted out, but if not you might want to give this a try 😉

Epsom salt, or magnesium sulfate heptahydrate, breaks down into magnesium and sulfate. Research shows that magnesium blocks NDMA receptors that basically tell your brain that you’re hurt. Logically that can relieve pain, thus reducing residual muscle tonus and cause overall muscle relaxation. The problem is that even though the skin is permeable it can’t really absorb magnesium very well. From the few studies out there, the effects of epsom salt seem to be enhanced by the fact that the individuals were placed in hot water, which just on its own works. I have tried Epsom salts with ice cold water for a few weeks (it didn’t dissolve that well) and yet it still worked so I’m my opinion it seems to be the salts and not just the temperature of the solvent

I am a huge advocate of massage therapy. I am fortunate enough to have insurance to cover the majority of the expense. I gett’er done weakly and more often if warranted. Releasing those muscle fibers are a great way to continue moving forward in our growth.

Im a huge believer in deep tissue and stretching for growth. Flex wheeler just to push stretching and I agree. Stretching and massaging the fibers does great for recovery and growth.
