If you need to lose weight, you may want to learn more about Saxenda, an injectable weight loss drug. The product isn’t right for everyoneut research studies have shown that prescription weight loss injections may help you reach and maintain a healthier weight.

What is Saxenda?

Saxenda (liraglutide [rDNA origin] injection) is a medication that helps your body to feel full sooner after you eat.

This may help you to eat less overall. The medication comes in a pre-filled pen and is injected into your body once each day, at any time of the day. If you take Saxenda, you’ll work together with your physician to reach the correct dose, up to 3 mg.

Saxenda can be used by patients who are obese (with a BMI of 30 or more) or by patients who have a BMI of 27 or more and a weight-related medical condition such as type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol or high blood pressure. Patients who take Saxenda should also be ready to commit to lifestyle changes, including a healthy diet and exercise program.

Some patients should not take Saxenda. These include patients who are pregnant, patients who have had any prior serious reactions to liraglutide or any of its components and those with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) or multiple endocrine neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2).

I have never heard of it. The claimed benefit is that it makes you feel full sooner. If that is the reason for taking it I would say its a waste of money for those who have healthy eating habits. Simply drinking a cold glass of water before eating will assist in suppressing ghrelin and signaling leptin… and it’s free.

Sounds to me that it is simply a hunger suppressing drug and designed for individuals who lack eating discipline or have an eating disorder.

Notice they recommend being committed to a lifestyle change including a healthy diet and exercise. I will say that anyone who is obese is guaranteed to lose weight without this drug if they are ready to commit to a lifestyle change including a healthy diet and exercise. In my opinion this is just another pharma company pushing a product for big $ with very little actual benefits to the patient. And at the same time exposing desperate people to horrible potential side effects.

Eating disorders are real but drugs do not fix that. Support and counseling is required in all but rare cases.
