So its been known that Apple doesnt encrypt the phone backups people make to the cloud. They claimed they were going to but now its been leaked that they arent going to encrypt backups and provide those to the govt.

Ive told people for years not to trust apple. The whole encryption arguments with the govt publicly are just a show. They 100% cooperate with them every chance they get.

Snowden is alright but he has his own agendas. Hes lost alot of credibility in the community. But still the mainstream public isnt aware.

He pushes signal and creator of signal is Moxie Malinspark who was one of the first to push encrypted phones years ago. After he had some phones siezed by customs he created red phone which was secure at the time. Then he took a buy out from the govt and closed down the project and disappeared. Came back years later with Signal and pushing it was fully encrypted tho its wasnt verifiable.

He also went to help facebook and whatsapp with encryption that had backdoors to it.

In programming an app can be open source for code review but if you cant compile the code directly and match it to the package released then it really means nothing other then you are hiding part of the code of the app itself. So why and what are they hiding?

Every encryption app is a risk. But threema is probably the best right now. The idea of the govt backing encryption apps to allow for backdoors and access isnt new at all.

No matter what phone you have or encryption, if the government wanted they could crack it. They have the best hackers in world working for them.

Actually no. The best ones dont work for govts at all. US govt has requirements and low salaries that dont interest them. A few years back they tried to change it but it never happened. What they do is contract to firms all over the world for access.

The best hackers coming from Romania, Ukriane, and Russia. But they usually go work with other firms.

@TG - 100% agree with this. The govt finds the loop hole. They contract out what they need to other firms, and shift accountability / compliance to them. The govt love this tactic and Private Contractors (PC) / firms for that.
