Hypertrophy Splits- good info

Good video I saw yesterday from Renaissance Periodization. Goes over some common splits and the pros and cons. I’ve personally always liked PPL. This is I think someone @NeuroRN has talked about with his training stuff, I could be mistaken. Has some good informational content as well on other vids, just wanted to share!

Absolutely love Dr. Mike. To put is plainly I’m a huge fan of all their stuff. I’m not a rep, I don’t get paid by them, but I am a long time customer. When I see something that yields results across all body types and goals- I think it’s solid.

Come to think of it, I’ve been doing the PLP Split for a while, but over the year I’ve found myself adding in stuff on random days; like claves, extra biceps sessions etc; so it’s kind of like a split between PLP with a bit of the whole body approach with stuff i know heals faster and could use extra priority.

Like Mike says, using the PLP as a general structure and then sprinkling in stuff from the advanced whole body training is a really good option and probably is what you’d end up at as a matter of course given you’ve been training a while.

Agreed. But Old guys like me have to really pay attention to our body’s though. Cause on gear especially deca or NPP we don’t feel joints getting injured until we come off then we are screwed. Already happened to me once. Plus our soft tissue doesn’t keep up with muscle growth so there is that also.

Makes a lot of sense; I’ve never run deca or NPP, but I know a lot of guys use it for joint issues even on TRT as an add on compound. Does it really mitigate joint pain that much on cycle? That would make me nervous as well, not knowing if damage was occurring during the cycle.

I’ve always tried to take a smart approach and moderate my lifts and exercise weight increases; if it starts going up stupid fast I slow it down because I know my tendons and ligaments are not keeping up with the muscle growth: so far so good - no major injuries yet in my early 30s. Knock on wood!

I wish I knew this stuff in my early thirties. Hahaha. My old injuries definitely gave me incredible pain and poor mobility for a couple months after running NPP. I was warned but i didn’t feel anything so my green ass kept going and bang. I don’t discourage using those compounds. I love NPP and am starting it again right now. Am five days in. Just have to know like when all of a sudden I gain 30 pounds on squat day don’t push it past that for a while. Or maybe even though I can do it just go up ten pounds and call well enough good.
