Muscle soreness is not an indicator of a good workout or of hypertrophy.
You can get quality training in for strength and hypertrophy without excessive soreness.
Usually doms (delayed onset muscle soreness) comes when a person try’s a new exercise movement and loads unnecessary extra weight and/or reps/sets. It can also happen on your regular movements with extra weight and/or reps/sets.
You are fine if your muscles are growing and/or you’re getting stronger and you don’t have excessive soreness.
The human body will adapt to the same loads over time. That’s why different training loads and movements need to be implemented in order to get bigger and/or stronger.
I get sore of I change rep ranges and what not but during my pl prep only been sore when coming back from covid and this week doing different exercises for deload
Naw. Just means your becoming a seasoned gym rat! I rarely ever get DOMS anymore. It’s only something muscles experience when they are new to an exercise. As long as your well hydrated that is
Depends. On cycle, my recovery time is 24/48 hours. Sore of a day then gone. When on TRT. Soreness lasts for days. I’ve always believed that soreness was a product of your body understanding of growth. Heavy days I can get sore for a day or two. Volume days, I’m sore for 4 days sometimes. I think it all depends on what your body is accustomed to. But all the greats gauged workouts by “ breakdown/tear” of muscle fibers I.E. muscle soreness. Me? I know when I’ve really taxed the muscle by how long I’m sore
Right now, on a nauseatingly true TRT dosage of Test E, I get sore hours after a hard workout and it doesn’t dissipate until morning, and even then I still feel it a bit at the beginning of the next day’s workout when doing a different muscle group. In fact, sometimes, when a workout goes to two hours, I start to feel soreness during the workout, particularly on cable flys.
On cycle, I will occasionally get DOMS a few days after a particularly heavy set, but it’s rare.
I have to say, in a nod to @Dirtnasty 's pathology, I kinda like the soreness when I have it. I feel like I earned the progress when I feel the pain. This morning, I ordered my breakfast delivered from a local diner because I was just too damn sore and tired at 6 am to cook it myself. When the delivery guy handed me the bag, he went on an on about how damn good I looked and how he wants to be just like me. Made me like the pain even more.
My chest is actually a bit sore. Haven’t had that happen in a while. I worked shoulders hard on Sunday then went to chest. My triceps were spent before I hit chest cause I was doing drop sets of strict presses. I heard if you burn out the triceps the chest gets a better work out and it did for certain. New strategy for chest day. Do triceps first. Maybe I can get better shaped pecks this way
I always hit one last chest pressing exercise before leaving gym after killing triceps juat make sure my chest gets hit properly. Alway use machine so I can focus on just pushing with pecs
