Old Man Thoughts On The New Year

There’s lots of folks out there that need help… some need a lot… some need a little boost. There are some that are in a scrape due to their own poor decision making (regular and reoccurring or just one bad one). There are some that are in a bad place due to circumstances out of their control.

My thoughts are if 30% of adults would help just one person (that needs help) this year… what a giant impact on society that would be. Hopefully those being helped would in turn help someone else when they’re able to.

I am not advocating taking a second mortgage out to give away, more like moral support and/or setting a good example. Maybe a person just needs a monthly bill paid to break even. I’ve found that a kind word and positive support will go a long way for someone struggling.

There’s plenty of people out there that have been judged harshly… some deserve it… others do not. Either way… a kind word doesn’t cost anyone anything and just might the thing that keeps someone between the ditches.

I’m not a bleeding heart liberal. I do believe (almost) everyone being offered a second chance. The onus is on them with what they do with it.

Well said brother, I agree with you whole heartedly. I try to practice this method, when I started introducing it to my team they thought I was turned hippy on them but now they find themselves doing it without thinking. Kindness and generosity goes so far.

Around the age of 19, I moved to a new city then someone broke into the place I was renting for the week. They stole everything including my cash and valuables which left me with no where to turn but sleeping in a park after that week was up. The first night in, a random family pulled and saw me camping out in the park with my luggage and gf at the time. He asked if we needed anything and I told him it was okay then he randomly said “I’ve been there brother” and told us to wait 5 minutes as he drove his family home. 4 minutes later he returned prayed for us, gave us a ride to a really nice hotel and paid for us to stay there for a week. When I offered to pay to him, he simply told us to pay it forward. 12 years later and I’m still doing so with the same response when they try to repay. Bit of a story but your sentiment reminded me, so thank you.

All of that sounds good @Poppy and @Islandswole2 I need to find someway,I use to volunteer on a horsefarm,I learned and did everything but ride a horse, and 2x a week they brought kids who were all on different spectrum of the autism scale, we would have them on the horses as we led them on trails never done something that rewarding.it was a blessing for me.

Any reason you quit? I’m sure they can always use volunteers. Handicap people are special folks that deserve our attention….my opinion

It’s actually really easy to change someones life… if not for only a moment. Walking in or out of grocery stores… stop and ask an elderly person if you can load their groceries for them. I do it often and those older than me folks appreciate it. Help someone at the lumber yard… I get young folks asking me if I need help loading all the time. My answer is always HECK YEAH!!!
