I’m in the south thought of learning hvac maybe I’ll get back with ex she said she would support me financially if I went to trade school for a few years haha
Trade school typically isn’t necessary. Lots of entry level positions and you can learn while getting paid. Getting in with a apprenticeship is your best bet
Agreed tradeschool is good for getting certain certifications but an apprenticeship is the way to go. I don’t know any electricians that went to tradeschool except the one that came with the apprenticeship. And most journeyman of any trade are capable of earning 100 k with all the OT available plus most foreman are getting profit sharing now on a per job basis. Retirement plans are insane with a good company. Dudes retiring with a 3/4 million portfolio in mutual funds. Plus their 401 k. Health insurance for life for you and spouse. 4 weeks 5 weeks 6 weeks paid vacation!!! Shit if you include all the benefits I’d say we have the potential to make a lot more money then the avg college graduate. And job security cause aint no one wanting to climb the ladder in the trades anymore. Kids come and go so fast. They never put in the time to capitalize on the trades. The avg journeyman here is gotta be 55. So who is gonna replace all these guys in 7 to 10 years. I think a kid who is worth half a shit will be able to name his price in ten years. That’s my take.
If I have a good candidate apply for a position with me and he is proven to be reliable then I usually will offer to match his current wage but if he doesn’t know much about my trade it may be a little longer than usual before he gets his first raise to offset the upfront investment.
This is what I’m seeing in my trade. Everyone is old and not enough younger people want in. It pays extremely well and generally excellent benefits. It’s not physically demanding but you have to work nights, weekends and holidays. When we do get younger people in they generally don’t stay because they hate working weekends or think you can’t raise a family while doing shift work.
