To be honest I’m not surprised that there’s many commonalities between them. But nobody focuses on like mindedness and trying to reach a common goal. I watched the whole thing, which I don’t normally do.
I do believe if we toss out the high and low (my job is all about math and failure rates) on each end of the political spectrum… which just so happens to be making the most effn noise… those of us left could and would get along just fine. I’m thinking we already get along just fine for the most part with a small minority on each side tossing buckets of gas on fire we are trying to put out.
I also think the media is complicit in the fear mongering… both sides.
I also think our government is close to being completely corrupt. Being a politician is not supposed to be a career… it’s supposed to be about a temporary calling where as an individual sacrifices his time/career for a better cause… for a short period of time.
I’m glad y’all seem to agree with me. Personally I’ve been beating this drum for awhile: unions, collective action and tamping down some the extremes of capitalism are all policy goals we can seem to agree on if we weren’t so focused on culture war bullshit by the media.
I’ve never given the billionaire thing a close study. I do have a problem with companies going offshore and enslaving indigenous populations to actually cut their cost of manufacturing down to nothing… then selling their goods at the same price or more…
I’ve got a story (of course). South eastern michigan has/had a lot of dirt roads winding through the countryside. When i was a little boy… they used to grade them out and spray oil on them. It would pack them down and keep the dust down. Of course the oil thing went away but the road crews were still busy in spring-summer-fall. A guy I’ve literally known since kindergarten ended up working for the old man that owned the crew. Lots of equipment $$$ and my buddy was licensed to operate all the big stuff. Kept the same crew for decades. The old man paid them well and treated them good. When he died… he left the company to the crew along with a substantial amount of money.
Unfortunately not all business owners are like that. It seems we have an abnormal amount of trust fund babies in my area. They’re mostly greedy aholes.
