Intro and some background on me

What’s up folks? Just stopping in here to say hi quick and give a little into on who I am. @Ironside and @GearChurch have told me a few times now about this place so here I am.

I’m 32 and have been into bodybuilding as a hobby since about 2008, I’m a combat vet of the US Army (11b), a father and a husband. I’ve been out of the service since 2011 and struggled on and off with addiction issues which would derail my fitness goals, mostly due to drinking and pain medication abuse. I had some pretty serious injuries but I’ve come a long ways since then and have been sober for a few years now, the gym being my biggest outlet and therapy.

I just started back up in the gym around September of 2018 sitting at 260 pounds and about 30% body fat. I’ve done pretty well since then and have cut down to 224, sitting around 15-17% body fat. My current goals are still cutting of course, hopefully to about 12%.

I’ve ran multiple cycles over the many years so I do have some experience I can contribute, but I’m always looking to learn more as well. I’m also a TRT patient due to a injury to the testes, it took a long time to realize I had low T.

That’s the jist of who I am now, as for occupation since the military I do mostly mason/concrete work. Thankfully this type of work helped me retain some muscle in all the years of not taking care of myself properly.

I’m about to run a blast of testosterone for 12 weeks, so I’ll update in the proper section for that too. Diet will be pretty strict and will be following IF for a 8:16 schedule, carb cycling will be implemented as well.

Thanks for a proper intro man. I’ve known this guy for a bit on another board and talked to him many many times on the sideline. Good dude right here. I granted you your Veterans Badge bro.

@Ominous thank you bro, I like to give some info on who I am. Some people may have shit in common besides the iron game, example is I see a lot of veterans here!

@Wcr86 thanks man, appreciate it!

@TBU thanks brother!

@Swest thanks man, I think I will too. There’s been a few real popular boards I’ve been on for a long time, however I’ve lost respect for some of them since they are so financially motivated.

@Gingerlifter thanks brotha!

@dburk55 thank you man! And congratulations on your sobriety as well. I was able to kick the alcohol relatively easy but the opiate demon is just another animal as you learned, especially when you started on legal scripts that were easy to get. If you don’t mind me asking - were you a user of all opiates or did you stick to a certain pill? For myself it started with hydrocodone which progressed into larger doses of hydros, to being changed over oxycodone, then the larger dose oxy, and that’s where it ended RX wise. Once my docs realized I was burning through scripts of IR 30’s they just cut me off completely which brought me to the street world. Unfortunately this led me to heroin eventually, like most people. Not trying to be intrusive either so is you don’t care to answer that’s cool too, I just always ask because I’ve meant so many people who ended up that way from scripts initially. My biggest issue in getting sober was being able to realize I was using opiates to cope with PTSD issues from the service, once I was able to tackle PTSD and addiction separately I was able to get sober.

So again, congrats on your clean time man as I know how hard it truly is!!

Yeah it definitely was a hard thing to realize, I started when I got into a car accident and shattered my ankle into pieces and needed surgery as well as broke my opposite side hip so I was unable to walk for like 3 months and I also was in a cast for 9 months but they gave me 300 Percocet 15 mg when I left the hospital and I took them normally but once I was done with them I was already going into withdrawal without and I was too embarrassed to tell anyone so I started buying the perc 30s off the street and like everyone else that got to be a 400+ a Day habit because I’d do minimum 3 and that wasn’t enough but I’d usually do 6-9 30s a day so once I was introduced to doing heroin and how it was “cheaper” I ended up doing that for a year and i basically spiraled out of control and was doing heroin and benzos just to function and that’s when I got help and I struggled still for another like 6 months to a year but I’ve been good now and clean for over 2 years

@freedomfries because god loves the infantry

Nice to a see a fellow 11b around, and yeah brother it seems to be a real common theme. Hopefully things continue to improve within the VA system and more guys get the help they need sooner, but usually there’s a large gap between leaving active and finally getting a doc at the VA.
