Intro and some background on me

Apparently from what I’ve seen I am the lucky one because I have had almost zero problems with the va, getting the help I need I even got a decent rating right off the bat, and there was a gap of 4 years before I even got in touch with the va.

Some of them are better then others for sure, but there could definitely be improvements in the transition from active duty to getting care at the VA. Unfortunately there’s been so many vets who have killed them selves right at the damn VA’s. Of course it’s on us to seek care but some places have a couple month wait to even be seen by psych.

Luckily they are improving the programs slowly, can’t remember the name of the program now but if the VA can’t see you within 30 days they will pay for you to see a regular civilian doc. The biggest thing is just that transition, as well as the lack of dental.

I was lucky too with my VA, once I did get care I ended up with a pretty good doctor and therapist and they treat me pretty good. As for ratings that’s another animal, I started off at 20% and ended up at 100 (employable) around 4 years later. I’ve seen guys get denied any compensation that had injuries worse then mine, so however the rating system works it doesn’t fully make sense to me.

I’m glad you’ve had a good experience with them.

Yes good buddy A mine has a legit warwound and gets less then me…funny thing is a know a lotta guys that bitch, but yet aren’t proactive in seeking help or seek it out to late… and suicide is a choice made by the individual not by anyone else if that’s what they wanna do then so be it.

As I was doin my eas stuff I seen a few options thrown out Incase dudes needed help and not a SINGLE marine took any of the options, and yet they get out and want help…

Welcome to UGM! I can relate to the drug use! Similar story, cancer in my femur bone and same ending! Glad u are here!

@AceTek glad your picking things back up man. I got hooked on pain pills and drank myself into Oblivion after some injuries last year. The injuries just helped kick my drinking into hypermode. Getting back into the swing of things myself. 9 months clean 3 months back in the gym. @KoJacked11 awesome to hear about you come back as well brother. Keep kicking ass.

@Trentrip24 I’m glad you found the way man, alcohol was a big part of my issue too but it was the opiates that took the longest to kick.

Congrats on your clean time too, your closing in on a year and that’s HUGE!!!
