Observations in the gym

I’d like to add:

Judging other people in the gym without knowing their full story is unproductive. Focus on your shit.

There is nothing wrong with getting strong.

Sometimes ego is a good thing. I can’t tell you how often my ego pushed me to do more and better. I play the ego game. Sometimes I secretly compete with others at the gym - keeps me motivated.

Put your fucking weight back.

The gym is a positive place. Encourage others.

Ask questions, talk to others at the gym, and find out why they are doing what they are doing. There is always more to learn.

Gym manners flow from two things: Focusing on your own goals and form and consideration for others. So like @JLee said, headphones on, head down, re-rack your weights, don’t gratuitously occupy a bunch of different stations/weights simultaneously when others are waiting to use them. One of my gyms in NYC has a number of IFBB pros who train themselves and others there. They don’t tolerate any inconsideration, and you don’t want to piss them off. I love it.

Guy will fight you especially if you stand in front of him while doing hack squats

I have alot of high school kids at my gym just like this if I go around 2:30. It’s great that they’re working out but for fucks sake…put your damn shirts on and phones away! No one cares about your abs at 125 pounds. 😤 Hood on head down and get back to work

Our high school gym was on a mezzanine overlooking the gymnastics room…we got a lot of “rail time”… shirts off of course.
