Pin size and injection sites

Looks like I’ve been using the biggest needle with a 21g 1 1/2 inch (I pull with an 18g), which is what my doctor prescribed. With cypionate for TRT, I do one injection in my thigh each week. They taught me how to inject, and I simply push the needle in at a steady pace with one hand. I’ve only been doing this since March, so I’m still relatively new at this. That being said, I still close my eyes when I start to push the needle in. I hope I didn’t just admit to being a wuss.

Each week, I rotate between each thigh. I also rotate between upper, middle and lower with each thigh, each week like I was taught.

Am I at a risk for scar tissue? Would it be beneficial to pin with a 25 g 1 inch needle instead?

I spent years using an 18g! The only access we had to supplies was at the farm and feed store. 🤣 That was before some of you were born though.

@funcouser you should never use a bigger caliber bullet than is necessary to take down an animal. Tends to ruin a lot of good meat.

BTW- I have been TRT for 5+ years and yes, you WILL develop scar tissue.

That is a bit misleading @Andrew0409. You don’t want to have to place too much pressure on the plunger to complete the injection that it causes you to lose proper injection technique. Injections should be steady, smooth and not take too much time. The longer the injection takes and the more pressure required will cause unnecessary trauma at the injection site and increase the risk of post injection pain.

Couldn’t you say the same for the other way around, using a 18g will have the oil come out the easiest but it’s also traumatic using such a big needle. Far less traumatic if you heat the oil and use a 29g that takes a bit longer if you keep it steady.

Absolutely the reverse is true. If you found something that works for you that is fantastic but to say that any needle will work with any oil, like grape seed, is simply misleading.

Well, there are obvious limitations depending on the thickness of the oil and such. But perhaps not so obvious to some that haven’t been pinning for a while like I’m assuming you and I have when I say any needle can work. And injection technique is important. And just because you can probably use a 18g or a 31g doesn’t mean they are the best tool.

If you don’t have a very high bf, you can honestly probably get away with .5in to 3/4 inches. But I think 1inch is the best bet for all muscles, you can always not go all the way in. Gauge, whatever can flow smoothly. I always try to use as small as possible without having to push it down so hard to push the oil through.

Thanks everyone! I’ll go to the drug store tomorrow and see if they have 25g 1 inch needles that I can try.

Honestly the thought of asking to buy needles is still a bit weird to me, especially since it’ll be used to inject test. Still, I’m glad to have the choice to buy them.

I just watched a YouTube video about steroids overseas, and there’s a big problem from ppl reusing needles (including ones from other ppl) because they’re not legal without a prescription.
