I went through a bad oxy addiction, worst experience of my life getting off that shit, cold turkey sucks tried it twice longest lasted a week. Finally got help and the month long naltrexone shot was a savior!
Been a year clean now, I hope your friend gets help, I had the option to go on Suboxone, but elected not too for personal reasons, and that shit is horrible to come off of as well.
It did amaze me how hard it was to get help for my addiction, a lot of places are either full, or are just going through the motions, and I have great insurance, honestly felt a lot of times it would have been easier to get help if I was on government assistance.
As to how to help? Honestly getting clean has to come from them, I had people try and force me, pressure me, but in the end it was my rock bottom that got me to get help. All you can do is be there for them, listen to them, their mind is going to be all sorts of fuckered up for awhile and it’s a hard road, not one I ever want to walk down again.

Im really happy for you brother ive been clean for almost 8yr now and I fought the same demons. I found that working out filled that gap in my life and helped me alot.
Suboxone was my savior

The more I talk to people who’ve fought that fight, the more it made me realize how individualized treatment should be, Suboxone is a godsend for some and not others, same with the shot I was on.
I found the group therapy sessions unhelpful, but others swear by them, everyone has to fight that demon in their own way, I wish providers would see that.
I’ve often thought it would be cool to start a sobriety gym group, getting those in recovery a set schedule and introducing them to the weights just might save a few people.

I have found gyms across the country that are all dedicated to recovery and those in it brother so many who lift have had addiction problems. They take that anxiety and throw it at the weights and like me they can find another way of doing things and it keeps us clean.

I wish you the best brother good luck and good gains
