Alright well i finally went to the doctor about my shoulder. The doc said im to young for a replacement. Also said he cant believe i am as strong as i am and doing the things i do with it so bad. So my question is do any of you guys lift with shoulder replacements.
I like to be active. Gym hockey golfing. I jammed a drill, drilling with a 6 inch hole saw and had been hurting unable to lift my arm for weeks. Went to the doctor and he said if i was older it would be a 100 percent replacement and that it was one of the worst he had seen. I read online you cant lift over 50 lbs with a replacement. Just wondering if any of you have any experience

Out of my wheelhouse brother. I know plenty that have had surgery but no replacements.

Maybe as @Neuro stated… do everything you can to avoid surgery. You might end up there anyways but give it a shot… no pun intended.

@Neuro

If I’m not mistaken…the shoulder is the most “complex” joint on the body.

I was completely unaware there was a shoulder “replacement”. I guess it doesn’t surprise me…we are in Y2K23…

Wonder how deep a replacement goes… both sides?

It’s definitely the most complex. And if I remember correctly there’s a couple different approaches and that determines the extent of the replacement. But it’s been years since I worked in the OR and was in one. I’m sure advances have been made!

OP, how old are you? I had a total hip at 39, im 43 now. Hurt my hip in 2015 at the age of 35, after close to 20 years of powerlifting competition. I waited 4 years to even have it looked at and got to where I was literally dragging my leg when I walked because of lesions (sp?) on both sides of the joint, like two bucks locked up in battle. When I finally went to the doctor he told me the arthritis in my hip was worse than what they see in 10+ year NFL Linemen, but also stated that I was too young for replacement and wanted me to wait until I was 45. I informed him that I had been living in advil and Tylenol on rotating 2 week schedules for over 3 years and my sleep was hourly due to pain radiating through my body 24/7 from my hip. The doctor was reluctant but ultimately decided to replace my hip.

On the other side of the coin, same doctor, my wife has a knee that’s been operated on 6 times since the mid 90’s, from meniscus tears to 3 ACL replacements. The same doctor refuses to replace her knee because there is still SOME functionality to the OEM joint.

I understand shoulders are complex, I’ve had 2 rotator cuff surgeries on my right shoulder both 20+ years ago and am currently lifting on a collapsed left rotator capsule. And I know hips to shoulders are apples to oranges, but remember age isn’t the only factor, functionality and quality of life are just as important. I used to grit my teeth and bear walking 20,000 steps a day at work dragging my leg because I had to, but the quality wasn’t there. If it’s effecting you that bad, voice that to the doctor.

Im 37 . There is not cartilage left, the top of the humerus has two big lumps on either side of my range of motion. They gave me a cortisol shot. Im back to lifting and feel as good as i can. I had two surgeries before on it to repair labrum tears and clean up the joint.
The doctor said he couldnt believe the xray and that i had golfed 18 holes two weeks earlier. That he would have expected me to not be able to function with how bad it as.
Iv been looking into the injections you told me before but my current situation isnt condusive to pinning. Two more years and im retired, then i can do what i want.
Thank you guys for helping. Good to hear some ones lifting with a hip replacement. Im going to another doc thats more specialized in shoulders. Just looking for the real world experience.

Even if they are obtained elsewhere… they are not illegal. The peptides I mean.

I have a tad bit of experience with shoulders. Right shoulder had three full-thickness tears: supraspinatus, subscapular, and bicep (both heads). Had them repaired reasonably timely, and all have regained full strength, though the short head of bicep disconnected again after about a week. I notice it, but most people say it just looks like bicep definition!

Other shoulder, well, the only rotator cuff not suffering from a full thickness tear is Teres Minor. Five years ago, my doc told me that there was a lot of crazy stuff I could try to do (PRP injections, etc.), but none of it was likely to work and that I should just plan on a complete shoulder replacement in a couple of years.

Fast forward five years, during which I’ve done a alot of BPC-157 and TB-500, a lot of sissy shoulder exercises (cable pulls with 5 lbs.), and everything from stupid types and levels of juice to the intelligent approach from @Neuro, viz., max out your test until you experience bad symptoms from high E2 or otherwise, then back it off a bit. No AI’s or caber, though I confess I still use some Proviron and a little Mast. The result: I now do those same cable pulls with 30 lbs. (at least twice a week, usually three) and recently hit my all-time flat bench PR of 335, which I hadn’t come close to since I was 39. That said, every now and then, I push a little too hard with dumbells, or try to do pullups or heavy bent over rows, and I’ll feel a tweak in the bad shoulder (or the relatively good one, interestingly). My rule is “if tweak, then stop.” It applies no matter what. With that regimen, my doctor is absolutely stumped that I am further away from a shoulder replacement now than I was five years ago.

But that doesn’t answer your question. My understanding is that no matter what the replacement technique or how well it goes, one’s day’s of heavy lifting are completely over once you have the replacement. It is that understanding that has motivated me so fervently to avoid a replacement.

Thank you. Ill order some and give it a try. Atleast it wont show on a wiz quiz or anything. You guys always have good advise. I just have to be willing to take it.
The tweek and reat thing i have been doing for a long time. When i had the first surgery at 25 the doctor said there was no cartiledge left. Working out keeps me feeling good and moving.
The head on my humerous is so worn its got two lumps stopping my range of motion at this point.
Ill give those a try it has to be better then the sides im getting from the mobic.
