I thought it might be helpful to do a rundown of my cut cycle and the factors that I think made it successful.
- Tracking macros. I see it on the board all the time. Know what you’re stuffing down your cakehole. To lose fat you must be in a deficit to ensure you’re in a deficit you must track.
- Cardio. This may not hold true for everyone but my weight loss almost certainly wouldn’t have happened had I not gotten on a six mile walking route. I think this lends credence to the 10000 steps theory. It may not need to be that much but for me cardio was essential. I also did my cardio in the morning in a fasted state. I know several members who are proponents of this and I feel it worked well for me.
- Weight training. Obviously in a calories in calories out sense lifting will help create a deficit. In addition muscle is more metabolically active than fat increasing metabolism.
- Community support. This is what UGMuscle does best. Posting a log really heped me with accountability and encouragement. When I stopped logging for a week due to work @Poppy and @Bigmurph called me to task and I resumed my log.
- Family support. If I hadn’t gotten my wife on board with my goals 60 lbs weight loss would’ve been nearly impossible. Every night I come home to a high protein low carb meal . She even eats “ f’in tilapia “ on occasion. I’m a lucky guy . I know my face is blocked out in progress pics but I assure you I don’t have the name troll for nothing.
- A decent hormonal baseline. I started this cut really at the beginning of the summer last year. I felt like I had been banging away at weights and cardio and diet to no avail. Then I got blood work done. I found out that I was hypogonadal my test levels were about that of a little girl. So I started trt. This actually got the needle moving immediately. I didn’t leverage t3 or clen through the cut but I honestly didn’t need tbviously compounds will help but they won’t do the job for you. I ran 200 test cyp and 200 deca per week. I know this is a high cruise but biomarkers have been good so far.
- Flexibility and patience. This has taken me a year to accomplish. I started at 270 so I knew I had some work to do. Weight loss takes time it’s easy to get discouraged but that’s what the community is for. You also have to be flexible. Not every meal will be chicken and broccoli. Meals with family I just try to do my best. You will at some point freak out and devour a large meat pizza. The diet isn’t over. It’s called a refeed. In the end I think it helps spur the metabolism.
I hope that was helpful for anyone of the new guys looking to start a heavy cut. There is a lot of experience on this board that can be used as a resource. I know @Dirtnasty was successful doing a serious cut this last year. All the members have been helpful and are a big part of my success. So there it is gentlemen. My victory lap. Now on to the fun stuff. GETTING SWOLE.
