I like Paul, and I think he’s hit it square on the nose again. I think the best way to grow is
Get as skinny as possible first, anything else is just going to make ya fat.

What do you think?
I dont think you need to be shredded but you definitely want to do it while lower bodyfat for most people. Everyones different tho. Some guys can dirty bulk and shred with zero issues and no problems. Lee Priest is probably one of most well known to do it back in the day. Its all about keeping your fat range in control when bulking. Only put on enough you know you can cut without issues.

In my late teens/college days I grew like a fucking weed on tacos, whoppers, eating everything. Never got too fat as I was still active. I cut on tuna, steak and eggs. I cant get away with that now lol. So back then its possible. Now its not. My body changed, and it will as we get older.

I think it definitely is better long term. Insulin sensitivity, inflammation, etc. to start as lean as possible.

I’ve seen a lot of guys talking about trying to stay 25-30lbs above weight cap, but I think that only works for those who are already sizable. I can’t stay that lean and grow to be competitive on stage.

But I think starting as lean as possible will get me there with less fat.

As far as diet, I’ve had to pivot to adding some tarts etc to get the cals in. I just don’t have the appetite to eat 600-900 g of carbs in fucking rice and potatoes.

Pop tarts and peanut butter were always helpful. Just eating peanut butter straight from the jar.
 
I’m in the same boat as Neuro and I just cannot sustain the appetite to eat 600-800g of carbs through good shit, like rice and sweet potatoes. I am pushing 50 now and I know that unfortunately bodies change.

I’ve always dreamed of being one of those genetic phenoms that could eat 300g or protein and 300g of carbs and put on about a 1lb of lean muscle every 1-2 weeks.

Mutant weight gainer/meal replacement has become a very good friend of mine to supplement with, but I know everyone has their opinions of supplements that contain Maltodextrin.

Lmao! Yeah, I’ve been pushing 50 for a while, but now I am actually pushing 50 and can no longer just say that I am.
