I have three wisdom teeth that have grown in straight and have given me no problems at all. I do have one that is growing in sideways towards other teeth so I will need to have that one extracted. These dentists say there is no reason to pull the other three other than because “it will be easier to clean,” or “you will be sedated anyways might as well get them all taken care of” or “they have no function and may give you problems in the future so getting them pulled while young is easier and less risky,” or “it will only take an extra 10 minutes to get them all done then you will never have to worry about it again, one healing period.”

I feel like every time I got to the dentist it is like walking into an auto shop for a routine oil change then they recommend all these other services on top of it. Is the wisdom tooth removal industry all bullshit for some quick extra buck?

Getting wisdom teeth removed is a shitty experience. If they grew in straight leave them alone. What’s the worst that can happen now besides cavities?

It’s free as I am still active duty. Trying to get the one extracted at least before I hit the civilian sector and it be thousands of dollars

That is what I don’t understand. They just say “even wisdom teeth grown in properly may cause issues down the road.” Like what issues? Sounds like bullshit to me. Would be like saying your appendix serves no purpose and to avoid getting appendicitis let’s just go ahead and remove it.

Well if it’s free just take them all out. I’ve known adults that had to get them removed and the older you are the worse the recovery is

Mine were perfect. No cavities straight and clean. Navy pulled them. Why? Cuz they can practice. If they are good to go then leave them. If they are shit, pull them.

I mean I’m just saying if they have to pull one you are already under take them all. Again I’ve known adults like 40’s and 50’s that has to get them pulled and they were down for a good while.

Why did they get them pulled? Were they bad ones from the get go that should have been pulled decades earlier or were they once healthy ones that had to be pulled?

They never had issues till shit started to impact as adults. I’ve never have mine pulled.

Look at xrays. You will see if your wisdom teeth are coming in straight or impacted.

Yep I have three that are good and the one that is impacting and coming in horizontally is the one I am for sure removing. They are just recommended I remove the other ones even though they are fine and in straight

If you have one removed, you’ll need the opposite removed. Might as well just pull them all then.

Wouldn’t need the opposite pulled as I have an overbite and it wouldn’t dig into the gums. The dentist who referred me to this surgeon said I could keep the three.

Again I just feel if you get one removed you are already going under I won’t hurt to take em all. But you do you. I could understand if it was financial decision.

Dentists are the biggest scammers in the field. 12 years ago they said I had 9 cavaties and needed all wisdoms removes and here I am 12 years later mouth perfectly fine lol

I guess i had great dentist growing up. Anytime I go to new ones. I just get compliments on. The work he did. I be never had them try and up sell me.

I am considering it just because I am already under. My concerns and what is keeping me hesitant is why get my gums cut open and roots dug out for “possible issues in the future” when there are possible complications and risks involved with the surgery? The recovery will be longer and I am on cycle, increase risk by getting all four for dry socket and also nerve damage albeit pretty rare. They are still risks however and do those risks outweigh possible issues with the teeth in the future, if any since they are grown in properly.
