Wrist straps - standard vs. figure 8

I only use wrist straps when doing a weight heavy enough where my grip becomes the limiting factor. I think this is important to do to continue to increase grip strength. However, when I do use wrist straps I currently use the most common old school style where you manually wrap them around the bar. With practice it gets easier to do the second one but is always a bit of a challenge doing it with one hand. I have been seeing these figure 8 straps and am curious what your opinion is on them if they are worth looking more into (or if you prefer a different style of wrist straps)…or alternatively any tips to always get the second strap as tight to the bar as the 1st one.

Off-season I’m strapped up with the cheapest ones from Walmart I really don’t have issues tightening it I kind of keep first one loose then did second and roll bar.i know the strongmen like the figure eights. I almost purchased versagrips and think that’s the way I would go if my straps fail

I got crappy ones that are probably 20 years old. Just started using them again to alleviate joint and hand issues.

Probably buy a nice pair this year. It’ll be the last pair I ever buy…

I usually use normal ones for high rep deadlifts, or other execrises needing wrist wraps. I will use figure 8’s for rackpulls or block pulls, i just did a below the knee rack pull at 545lb with 220lb of band tension at the top for 3 reps. I burst a couple of blood vessels in my neck lol. It was fun though.

Never used figure 8s but i would be worried about release if you needed to bail on a lift. Regular wraps release much easier…and they just seem safer. Also, it looks like you could get much tighter on the bar with regular wraps, as their looks to be a lot of play in the 8s.

True people using them for snatches really racking risk for shoulders if they toss it back to hard and can’t control bar

I don’t talk to people in iron gyms but I would so so so tempted to ask wtf if i saw that. If you can’t hold it, you ought no lift it more times than not.

Any significant difference between the Versa Grip sub types? Regular, Pro, Extreme…or is it more of a way to get more of your money? Don’t use them too often (usually just for heavy high reps shoulder shrugs and higher rep deadlifts) so thinking the standard would be fine and a nice improvement from my standard wrist straps.

Yeah going middle ground is usually what I gravitate to when there are multiple options. There is always that saying “buy once, cry once” though the wraps aren’t crazy pricey.

Same as me. Im usually I don’t need top model but I don’t want the cheapest except straps I literally have the chaeapest haha

Yup the main other thing I typically go cheapest is iron weight plates…after all weight is weight. I don’t do Olympic lifts at the moment so no real need for bumpers. However I did splurge a bit since some Rouge deep dish 100s and 45 lb pairs were on sale as they just looked so cool. Aside that I have pairs of plates from wherever I can find them, often used from various onsite sites.

The sound of the the clinging of of iron plates is like none other. 🙂

My old straps still kicking hahaha
