Asking for a friend who's considering a first cycle

As I was talking to a cousin of mine the other day he was venting about being undersized college baseball. He’s played and trained for baseball at a solid level and was able to get a scholarship to play ball for a D1 college in the area.

As we were talking he hinted to me that he might be looking into supplementing with test. And me being the good older cousin warned him of the potential risk reward analysis of starting at his age (he’s 18).

So, I won’t pretend to be naive and think that most college athletes are not using, which I told him. So I directed him to some resources that I used to educate myself, and told him if you wanna do a cycle then I would start small and see how you react.

The real question for me though is does anyone have experience on how NCAA testing is? This may be outside the bounds of the forum, but I though I’d just ask. I had other friends of mine who’s brothers ended up playing college football and even going pro, and I know they were all using. Mainly asking so that I can ease my conscious in telling him, “hey you might not wanna do this because if you’re caught you’re fucked.”

As always any info is greatly appreciated, and I’ve already kind of warned him not to at this point, but I thought it’d be at least an interesting discussion.

Side note he’s only thinking of using, because he’s about 30lbs under weight compared to his teammates and looking to get bigger (he’s about 5’7 165lbs as a catcher).

I personally know nothing about the ncaa testing protocols.

I lnow they used to have some ridiculous stuff on the banned list.

D1 should have a pretty decent gym with strength coaches. I’m sure they could come up with a decent strategy for him (naturally of course).

Can’t say for baseball but for football we had about 6 players tested each year. Now I know people use in sports but me personally I’d stay natural while playing. Ask him if he thinks risking his scholarship is worth it.

Thanks all for the reply. I’ve told him that it’s in his best interest to not start at his age given the physiologic and possible scholastic risk involved. I’ve kept telling him to listen to his coaches and just keep eating and eating.

At this point he seems willing to steer clear

18 tell him that he will stunt his growth and wait until he finishes developing. Then hit it because he will ruin his chances starting now I know I started at 16 and I didn’t make it anywhere its not worth it tell him to get educated for free and get a great job while in college.
