Hey guys. Just an update. Will be another change on site to comply with new EU laws. Its a very grey area and not everyone completely understands the effects or changes for forums. Also the wording doesnt just apply to people in the EU as citizens or residents. More then likely what we will implement is a blanket clause as a just in case.
For the record, other forums should be doing this too however most probably wont. I want to clarify a few things.
We dont not track or keep IP information of members. The last IP used to connect is from cloudflare. We have the server disabled on the side to reconfigure and collect real IPs.
We use a cookie that tracks metrics and forum login but not personal information. From others with these forums they state this does not fall under the EU regulations as we dont track data on peoples info.
Theme for cookies. We have user choice of themese disabled so this does not apply.
All photos uploaded have the exif data extracted on upload to protect members that may have that enabled on their device. So this does not apply.
Lately we have started using google analytics. This is for our SEO and tracks where traffic is coming from. Just like every other forum. Ive actually checked the source codes to verify this. Now this from some people claim does fall under the new law. But information it gathers on the site is not valid info on members such as the way we have IP setups. GA is also temporary until we stop this last marketing push. We have a 225% growth in organic traffic since this.
Any questions you guys have just ask and stay safe out there. As i find out more on the new law Ill update this thread.
