New Log, Strongman Competition Training

Well yesterday was log, bicep is feeling a lot better, did some sets of 5x5 on bench and went to do my first log Press and that shoulder injury flared up. So took it light, and did high reps.

Shoulder still sore today, did light stone work after doing 5x5 squats, just did light stones with minimal rest between.
Been really discouraging as of late with these lingering injuries.

yeah man he’s the shit 👌 very high paid pt. Really smart dude. Tons of free content on YouTube

lol heard that man, I have two bulging disks that I use to have to get the chiro to straighten out every 4 to six weeks, now I can line that bitch up at the house 5min tops

Brother I want to be honest with you if you keep working out with injuries you will not heal and even worse if it does heal it won’t heal correctly.

I would say take a break on doing the movements with your injured areas. I know its hard but short term it will suck long term it will help you get back to 100%.
If you heal and develop scar tissue in certain areas like I have it sticks around forever.

I wish you the best brother a little rest won’t take you out completely you can still do alot working around the effected areas

Good luck and good gains brother

I hear ya, old habits die hard, it was always train with discomfort and keep pushing.

I’m going to stick with just leg movements for at least a week, and give this bicep/shoulder a rest.

My abdominals and legs can take the punishment for a bit!

Thanks for the reminder!

Do a rehab workout on your injured movements with bands maybe light weight just to keep things going but I wouldn’t push them hard. You won’t regret it brother my football coach was one to say that you were never injured walk it off and I played with concussions and injuries that alot of years later still effect me when if I would have just rested even just a bit it would have helped make things much better for me and my health.

Last couple days have been doing higher rep, light weights to try and avoid injuring my shoulder more and letting it heal a bit.

Frustrating, I’ve felt super rested the last few days and really wanted to throw some heavy shit around.

Took Friday, Saturday, and Sunday off, did some light cardio, giving the shoulder/bicep a much needed rest, kept trying to do light weights but just the pressure would cause pain, so thought it best to really lay off it for a few days.

Will test it out tomorrow, hopefully it’s better.

Well tonight, bench and log, after three days off I wanted to kill the weights, was feeling strong and rested, but I held back a bit. Shoulder feels a ton better, but could tell it was still tight so didn’t push too hard, 225 on bench for 12 reps and 4 sets, moved to log and stayed with 175 for sets of 7 reps, did 195 but I could tell after a few reps the shoulder was a little tender so dropped it back down.

You’re doing great brother. Glad to hear you’re healing and able to get your reps in. I’ve been getting more interested in the strongmen competitions and powerlifting here lately.

I’ve been nothing but a power lifter. I don’t have that diet discipline and I like lifting heavy things and recording gains from training. It’s kind of a OCD thing for me. And I could see myself participating in a powerlifting competition way before a bodybuilding type event. I did several competitions in the military and on a state level before. But nothing national yet. Being an older guy I could see myself in a senior or masters type lifting group and still be competitive. At least maybe after this COVID thing I’ll train for a event. 3 lift type event.

This is my first time ever doing powerlifting/strongman type training, have always leaned toward bodybuilding, I think because it was just what I was used to and knew.
I regret now not getting into it sooner, as I’m really liking it, any and all advice you could give would be great.
It’s fun picking up stones, flipping tires, etc…I’m enjoying it a lot.
