VETERANS
That debate was an absolute horror show.

Watched maybe 20 minutes of it or so before I couldn’t stomach any more. Mostly consisted of Christie getting booed for saying common sense things. Vivek made an impression, as did Pence. DeSantis was unimpressive.

Seemed more like a personality competition to me — candidates didn’t seem to question policy positions and differences so much as differences in character.

I didn’t watch it but from what I gather… most were spewing out sound bit material rather than their policy ideas.

9pm is too late at night for me so I’m hoping I can watch it later. From what I read so far Vivek stood out and Tim Scott was not to bad. Desantis was pretty meh. But like I said before I need to see it for myself before I have any real opinion

I believe lots of folks have difficulties separating personalities from policies.

For instance:

Jimmy Carter was a terrible president but a good man.

Bush daddy was a terribleish president and a very bad man.

Bush baby was hunter biden a long time ago… rich entitled cokehead brat. Terrible president no telling what he got away with and family money covered up.

Clinton was a terrible person in every aspect but not a bad president. Racist rapist

Nixon was a complete nut job and a marginal president… he got is out of vietnam a very good thing. That’s about it.

Obama was a terrible president and only a handful of folks really know where he comes from. Possibly a complete fraud. Racist

Trump is a blowhard… typical rich kid self promoting. Most likely a crook BUT he didn’t make his fortune as a politician. Pretty good president.

Biden is a complete mess and has been as far back as anyone can find. Racist completely crooked.

I got plenty more but arthritis is acting up.

I didnt bother watching it. Biden will win re-election regardless what happens cause they will nominate Trump. Trump was a democrat before running. They say he will pick either Kari Lake or Vivek as his running mate. Both Democrats who pushed hard for Obama and only became republican when they wanted to run in politics. From the small parts I saw floating around seemed Trumps base thinks put downs and come backs is what leads to winning a debate regardless of policy. DeSantis supporters got bored. No one likes Christie anyway and half the party will never support Pence.

Whether Trump is guilty or innocent in his indictments is irrelevant. He has so many people hating him on an emotional level they will come out in droves against him. Others they wouldnt care either way. Trump still has no plan for ballot harvesting yet he will launch another pac and take money for it then steer it somewhere else instead.

The only one on stage that would make a real change would have been DeSantis by getting rid of IRS and a few other agencies. Either way I dont have to live in states anyway now. But would have been nice to get rid of the IRS and give people back their money.

The most genuinely strange thing during this debate was everyone coming out swinging against teacher’s unions. Like, most of the teachers I know already make subsistence level pay, but there be all these rich politicians on stage talking about how teachers making a living wage is bad for some reason…?

I don’t understand this. At all. But I also think this is what happens when you give the government enough power to say that the goods and/or service produced by one human being is a RIGHT to another person. :man_shrugging:t3: my political opinion is worth very little though.

I don’t think it’s correct to say it’s a “right” per se. More of an entitlement.

Personally I think this is a product of the way schools are funded — rich and middle class people hate it when their tax money goes to schools and students they view as less deserving so they’ve fixed it basically in every state so that poor neighborhoods get poor schools and rich neighborhoods get well funded ones. Teachers unions are a natural outgrowth of this because, of course, the poorly funded schools don’t have enough money to pay them properly.

The way we fund schools is the problem, not the entitlement itself.

Very fair point. I have noticed a lot more things are “rights” since moving to Denver, and I may be getting annoyed by it.

Anytime the gubment is involved in funding…. They are fucking someone over.

Funding is most definitely the issue. Same with healthcare.

@Neuro Everyone’s always getting fucked over — it’s just a question of who is doing the fucking and who is getting fucked. When a rich factory owner pays his workers subsistence level wages, that guy is fucking over his entire workforce — but nobody complains about that because it’s “how it works”. At least when the government does it we can control it.
