I think a lot of people tend to see the world in black and white terms. Some might blame the media for this, with their both-sides-isms, and they might not be wrong. But also, I think some people just process things that way – good or bad, up or down, right or wrong, male or female, 1 or 0, us or them. Like, that can be a useful frame if you’re a person looking for definitive answers to everything, like maybe a philosopher or mathematician or engineer or priest or soldier. But the real world exists in shades of grey and there are a lot of decimals between 1 and 0. It’s useful to have definitive answers, but we also have to recognize that the answers may lie in the margins.
