They gave me a cane after my hip replacement and told me to walk with it about two hours after my surgery. It was a wobbly and very scary proposition, but I did it, and about a week later, I was walking without the cane! That’s the current thinking, viz., that the sooner you put full pressure on the new hip, the better it “seats” and heals.

That’s how my second shoulder surgery was… it included a humeral head resurfacing and there was no moving my shoulder until PT started, and even then most of the movement was done by another person at first to just stretch things out

Thats even quicker crazy I bet you were wobbly.
They got you two going fast and so far you both seem to be doing well

That’s exactly how it was for me even when the cast came off I still had 2 weeks of PT of just massage and stretch I wasn’t still allowed to use it that’s why I was surprised.
You guys are doing well so I guess getting back on the horse is the way to go with implants

Hip replacement (technically a resurfacing) was the best decision I have ever made. No pain, no restrictions, but probably limited to 10-15 year usable life, after which I’ll have to have the full replacement (resurfacing is just the ball and socket).

I forgot that you actually didn’t get the replacement or implant. So it seems the same PT for replacement or refinish. I wouldn’t have thought it would have been so quickly. Especially if you got bone shaved down that just sounds like something that takes along time to heal but I guess it needs to heal exposed to bodyweight.

@herrubermensch, re surfacing wasn’t an option on my hip, there were so many spurs and lesions on the head of my femur that it was just replacement… but I am with you, I lived with pain in my hip for 5 years and had 1 year of almost unbearable pain and very to little ROM in my left leg, it literally drug when I walked… if my right hip ever goes, and I know it will, I’m noticing some things with it that I noticed early in my left hip, I will not hesitate to have it fixed ASAP

Same here. I suffered for years, not being able to run, thinking it was something else, finally having the MRI and being told it was ridiculously far gone and needed either resurfacing or replacement. I went for the cobalt/chromium cap and socket three years ago and have never looked back. I still have discomfort if I run over three miles, but that’s primarily because I’m too fucking big to be running that far anyway!

Im glad to hear that you didn’t die on the table that comment troubled me honestly so im glad that you’re doing good brother.
Everything went well that’s great news also nice 😎
