My Quarterly Blood Labs

How low could you reasonably expect it to get? I wonder if it would even be possible for you to get as low as 5 or if you could ever have the glucose response of someone who was never diabetic? I’ve always heard type 2 is reversible if caught soon enough

6.3 was on a very strict diet with meds. Diabetes is in my family tree. I’m the first one to be a non type 1.

My doc says I will be a type 2 forever. The folks that reverse theirs are extremely obese and out of shape then lose all the weight and start doing things right.

He has explained it to me. My body produces insulin it just doesn’t process the sugar out of my blood like it should.

Thanks for the explanation. Type 2 diabetes runs in my family as well which is why I’m so interested. know one in my family has ever tried to properly manage their diet and lifestyle either though so it’s hard to say what I have in store. RN I seem to be good but I’m only 42 so fingers crossed.

I’m hoping if I keep it managed well through good eating habits and lots of cardio I won’t have any problems.

You’ll probably be just fine. I made it to 52 before I was diagnosed.

I also didn’t mean to imply that all type 2’s are probably obese. Not the case at all.

That’s just a part of it.

I’m very jaded with most everything on this planet. I’m of the opinion that type 2 diabetes is an invention of big pharma. Sure there’s folks like my family that develop it on the way to type 1.

BUT I also believe that there’s folks that have elevated a1c’s as they age that will never turn into type 1’s.

Like I said earlier, there’s also a large segment of the population that develop t2 diabetes from no more than unhealthy lifestyles. Rather than pushing for a more regulated healthy lifestyle…they’re pushed meds that allow them to continue with poor lifestyle decisions AND keep their blood sugar in check.

For the most part it is pretty consistent that people with type 2 are obese. Also, if left unaddressed all type 2 progresses to type one when beta cells in the pancreas die from over use.

Yeah that’s my dad. Type 2 because he eats like shit and does zero exercise. Scares the shit outta me all the health problems he’s got that were 100% avoidable. Just watching him deteriorate has been my biggest motivation to get healthy and age well.

My dad was the same way…old school Career Marine wounded real bad in vietnam and medically retired … he can walk just no running.

He drove a truck for 30 years smoking lucky strikes and drinking every day. Had a heart attack and discovered his type 2 developed into type 1… in his mid 50’s before retirement. His words…” I pulled my head out of my ass quit everything unhealthy, lost 30 pounds and wanted to live”.

He’s 81 ish now and doing great. Takes insulin but otherwise healthy.

That’s great. My old man is not taking the same path. He’s 72 and he’s got a long list of problems, congenital heart failure not the least of them. But it’s had positive effect on me and I think that brings him some joy. And he’s got a sneaking suspicion that it’s not all just diet and exercise lol. He’ll say shit like “I’m pretty sure your testosterone levels aren’t natural”. He was also a coreman in the Navy from the late 60’s to the early 80’s, so I just don’t say anything.

Hey he’s doing pretty good to make it to 72. Loads of people with that diet and lifestyle die in there 50’s to 60’s

Darn brother! I’m sorry for your pops. That’s a BIG one right there!

To be very honest…heart attacks and strokes scare me to death. They’re my top two. Even more than prostrate cancer, bp and diabetes. Kind of like tornadoes as compared to hurricanes. Tornadoes can pop up in a moments notice with great devastation while a hurricane can’t exactly sneak up on you.
