Semaglutide Curbs Alcohol Cravings

Habits…both the good and the not as good tend to be woven ever so tightly into our routines as the years grow longer. Until we say things like this. I am searching to loosen my least favorite one’s grasp just enough to take a breathe and re-evaluate clear headed and with intent.

This is half the fight right here. I’m very interested to see how this goes for you.

So, I don’t have any issues with drinking (relationship, work, health) outside of it just being a bad habit, and one that is hard to break. This is something I wish to curb not necessarily stop. I don’t want is very badly, I guess I would have to say, b/c of that.

8 drinks a day is problem. Thats just called being functional alcoholic. And im not saying it’s a thing where you never drink im just saying nobody will agree that 8 a day isn’t a problem outside of other people who have a problem. I’m not judging used to drink way more and do other shit daily and function myself. I recently got back to drinking regularly on weekends after my break up as I kind of want to find some “companionship” and know of no other ways. But as I feel I need to ramp my training back up probably shutting that down as well. I will be doing. Another race next month right before prep but after that back to sober train for me

If you were to come into the icu as a patient, and told me you average 8 beers a day. I would tell the doc we need to have alcohol withdrawal precautions in place.

Just chiming in and been super busy to be on where lately. Haven’t read thoroughly through what we’re trying to get out of this thread on the Semaglutide??

Are we looking for a dosing protocol for weight loss, alcohol suppression, or something in the middle??

I believe he wants alcohol suppression with a 10 pound weight loss as a positive ancillary.

One will lead to other in fact if it does suppress alcohol cravings and leads to less food intake that 10 number may happen quicker than he thinks.

The experiment is to see if Semaglutides are effective at curbing my alcohol consumption.

I would prefer not to lose weight.
Hoping I can replace the beer calories with protein shakes to offset to some decree.

I am willing to lose 10 for the sake of this experiment.
But I have no interest in going under 200…that’s “victim weight” territory. 😐

Well, I get now what you’re wanting to accomplish. Unfortunately, Semaglutide will curb your appetite no matter what dosage and weight loss is a now intended indication of its purpose. You can push through and supplement with shakes and whatnot to not take hit or decrease your caloric intake and help sustain the weight. If it helps, the protocol for weight loss is as follows and does have an impressive alcohol suppression at just about any of the doses. Makes you pretty much either lack the desire of wanting a drink, or makes you very nauseous each time you even attempt to have more than a drink or two. There are some providers pushing the limit and going higher than the 2mg dose, but that the threshold we have maintained safely with great results.

0.25mg = 0.05mL (5units) injection weekly x 4 weeks

0.5mg = 0.1mL (lOunits) injection weekly x 4 weeks

1mg = 0.2mL (20units) injection weekly x 4 weeks

2mg = 0.4mL (40units) injection weekly

Week 1: .25mg Semaglutide

Weight - 3 lbs less (211 → 208)
appetite - 50% less
Drinking - 30% less
Blood glucose am avg - 5 points less (99 → 94)
BP - 6/10 less (132/85 → 124/75)

Notes- heart burn, burping, more frequent bowel movement subsided (as well as the suppressions effects) as the week went on.

Opinion - 1st thought is that this would be great to help start and/or adhere to a new diet.

Discussion - Would it be more effective to split a dose into twice a week?

I’ve found the same thing. I dose Sunday evening and late Thursday i can eat more “comfortably “ and it decreases from there until monday morning.

Splitting the dose is interesting…

My experience: the first couple months on 2mgs @ week, the sides were a bit harsh and I was dropping weight quickly. I spread the dosing out to every 8 days for a month then switched back to 7 days at 3/4 dose for a month. That really settled everything down. It’s been months now on regular protocol without any issues.

Technically, yes! When it was originally being studied back in the day, it was actually tried as a three times a week dosing protocol because of the adverse effects of nausea and whatnot, but they changed it for ease of patient use and marketing to once a week, but now Providers are all prescribing for their Betes and weight loss patients and having them split it to curb those issues and still getting the same results for both weight loss and A1C management.

There are some misnomers to those that still do better once a week for their A1C, but I personally believe it’s because they’re forgetting to take their other dose during the week, thus the once a week marketing plan in pre doses of pens.

Week 2: .375mg Semaglutide

Weight - No change
appetite - 40% less
Drinking - 25% less
Blood glucose am avg - No change
BP - No change

Notes 1 - Week 1 sides pretty much went away. Appetite bounced back a little, and drinking suppression was down.

Note 2 - Titrating up to .50mg split in two shots on Friday morning and Monday night for the next two weeks to evaluate.

Opinion - You really do get a lot more out of workouts without all the extra calories. They results are very noticeable and I don’t feel like I have to kill myself in the gym everyday to burn the extra off. (Capt. Obvious)

Discussion - (none)
