To juice or not to juice

I appreciate the advice I’ve been doing CF for 8 months now. Before I was just training in my garage. It’s really cool to workout with a group though. Everyone is always encouraging new comers and the people struggling to finish. One guy ran extra laps with me just to keep me going one day. It’s eye opening what a positive environment can do for you.

@Kad1 is an excellent resource on strength and conditioning as a whole. If you’re headed down the CrossFit path I would encourage you to pick his brain on ways to stay healthy. He is definitely on of the most knowledgeable box owners I’ve known.

CF tends to be shoulder and hip dominant and has lead to a rather large increase in hip and shoulder labrum repairs. The orthopedic docs I know call CrossFit their money maker. I’d encourage you to pick his brain on ways to balance out the program and stay healthy long term.

Be warned. He’s also not one of us mere mortals.

I really like Crossfit. I can see how injuries can happen. I’ve seen people at my gym bust shins on box jumps so far. There is a lot of high impact exercises. @Kad1 have you had any injuries personally?

Thanks brother. I’ve been trying to change the stigma around Cf for years. Bad coaches are what get people hurt not CF movement done properly. Coaches are there to teach and guide athletes not push to do than they are capable of. We’ve been talking about Murph tonoooso I’ll use that as the example. There is so much prep work that goes into getting athletes ready for that workout. There is no way in hell I’d let someone my gym do that workout w/ plate carrier there first time out. Most of our athletes do it for 2 years before we talk about it. We spend 8 weeks prepping everyone for that amount of volume

I have banged my shins but never had an injury from training other than normal aches and pains and occasional tendonitis. I’ve never had an athlete get injured while training with me. We’ve had ZERO visits to the ortho with anything other than some mild overuse injuries. I’ve seen other gyms where there are 2-3 people in slings. Unfortunately the bud does get a lot of shins. Lol

I believe you are one of the few owners/coaches that I would still train under. I started in CF in 2006 with an owner who was an accountant and never owned a gym just saw it as a money making venture. Went for 3 months and never went back. Went back about 2012 to a box that all coaches had actual experience, degrees, licensure, certificates etc and the experience was night and day. The wife on the other hand experienced more of the first type box and ended up with a gnarled him labrum tear and we’ve just stuck to traditional lifting since.

I’m always in full support of a CF box that does things the right way. I believe it can truly be beneficial for a majority of the population. Keep it up! Ppl like you will win out in the long run and flourish in the sport.

It’s typical for faster athletes to run extra laps or do extra burpees to help others finish the workout
This is me cheering people on after years Mike Murphy contest

Thanks brotha. My first experience was similar. Literally my first CF workout was Fran. Never did a butterfly pull-up in my life. Coach said give it a try . Explained it basically, told be should take 4-5 min . I finished In 2:32 and never did it again. I coughed up fluid for 3 days

Actually I’m fucking awful at handstand walks. I have such shitty shoulder mobility I can at best make 25 ft. Wish I could post a video of me doit it. I look like a T. rex trying to walk. Lol

It definitely makes a difference on who is coaching. Some coaches I’ve notice really breakdown the techniques for oly lifts and some just rush through so they can get the class out on time. If I didn’t have to work to pay the bills I would spend more time practicing for sure. I get to the gym early before class starts so I can do some extra stretches but that’s about it for now.
