No, no. “The God” was Marino. Don’t care if he never won a SB. Noone had the pure talent as a passer that Dan did. He made every game exciting and fun to watch because there was no throw he couldn’t make, and usually on a frozen rope. And all with no wind up–a “flick”–making his release time ridiculously fast. We are unlikely to see a talent such as his again.

Rant over.

You can’t be the greatest quarterback ever without results to back it up lol. Great QBs make mediocre receivers look great. Was he good? Yes
was the the greatest? The results say no.

Just looked it up. Ya I was watching football back in the mid 80s already. But I only really cared about the Detroit lions and nfc north back then. Didn’t follow whole thing much until after highschool. Played all the time. Even college just didn’t watch much. Oh but also watched wolverines a lot back then also

I of course disagree. Dan’s passing ability was just on a different level. Even Brady would say that. Anyone who has witnessed Dan throw stands in awe–the velocity that he generated and accuracy that he maintained with just a “flick” of his arm. His passes broke bones in his receiver’s hands! And he did make a number of mediocre receivers look great. And he changed the way defense is played in the NFL, with a passing attack that had a potency noone had ever witnessed.

All of that being said, I certainly understand the distinction between “greatest passer” and “greatest QB” and understand the case for Dan being the former, but not the latter.
