Diary of a middle aged, fat, broken mans comeback

I can’t say for sure, but there’s lots of medical journals that say lots of things,I’m sure the one you read and all the others think their right, but just cause I don’t make my therapist cry, doesn’t mean I’m fine, it sounds like a opinion almost. The things that go on on in our lives are real, you know that obviously, the way we act, our sleeping patterns, all that shit, so just cause someone published things that said, I’m fine if I don’t make a therapist cry, doesn’t make fine, these things aren’t imagined.

Ha ha I feel like most of them, have to question what they do for a living after listening to people offload their junk on them

Being new here, I just wanted to say two things.

First, this is a great log and really exemplifies the empathy, experience and wisdom of boardmembers here. Very cool. Congratulations to the OP on his recovery.

Second, for those with irreconcilable hip issues, consider resurfacing as opposed to traditional replacement. Essentially, just gives you a new chromium/cobalt ball and socket rather than replacing half of your femur. There only are few surgeons who can do it successfully, but when done correctly, can give you the ability for another 10-15 years to do everything you did prior to the surgery, including running, hoops, and, of course, lifting. I chose the resurfacing route a couple of years ago, as my X-rays showed complete lack of cartilage in my right hip and a malformed femoral head. While I cannot run as far as I used to or as smoothly, I can squat and dead every bit as much as I used to. OP seems to be nearing the same result with a complete replacement, which is great, but I was concerned about not being able to regain my strength if I did a total replacement.

@herrubermensch, I spoke with my doctor extensively about a PHR (partial hip) which would have been basically what you are talking about, however having both cam and pinscher lesions on the femoral head and acetabulum and zero cartilage, THR was the route he wanted to go. I have regained full use of my joint, with the exception of sprinting (I have no reason to sprint ever) and jumping, which kind of sucks because I did like box jumps, but I can do a lot of other things to allow for explosive strength gains. I can’t cross my leg over the midline of my body either, but I’m fine with that. I thank you for the props, I know this post has kind of lost its way, as soon as my biceps tendon is healed I’ll be back on track to compete in a push pull meet, and the logging will continue

Sunday I pulled 405 for 2 doubles, mostly to shame a friend of mine that was in the gym crying about how a few weeks ago he could pull 425 and now he can barely pull 350… (he’s got terrible mechanics, gets tight to start but doesn’t pull the slack out of the bar or load his hamstrings, just grips and rips). Tonight I went in and did dead’s again, this time with titan stands so it was like a 6” block pull… it’s always nice to hit different angles… I worked up to a double with 420 from 6” off the floor. My biceps and right shoulder are still killing me, and to top it off I pissed off mg right hamstring doing RDL’s tonight, I’m slowly lowering my NPP, so that’s not helping matters. In a few weeks I’ll be replacing the NPP with mast e and upping my test to a little closer to 600 mg/wk, then after the mast I’ll be switching to EQ and Proviron with my test still around 600 for a little while before I go back into cruise control. Here’s a photo of the bar tonight with 275 plus the 12.5 lb stands set at 6”

Awesome I did pressing motions with machines for first time in about 6 weeks today. Should feels ok so I may try db incline on Sunday. Not heavy. Of course when I say not heavy I almost had the max amount of weight on machine it can handle four plates each side

@Dirtnasty just remember, listen to the body! I tweaked my ham on RDL’s tonight, nothing heavy just repping out 245, but as soon as I felt my hamstring tighten I set the weight down and was done! In mg younger days, I would have worked through it and forced myself to heal, or so I thought… led to a lot of issues

Listen to the body. It’s so hard!!! I can’t do squats or deadlifts anymore cause compression on my disks. But I can do machine. I have to do each leg separately Or my right leg pushed harder then my left to make up for it. Squats and deadlifts are my favorite cause they show the biggest gains. Damn it!!!
