I’ve only ever seen 2 black bears charge. The one was the injured that came up to my truck. He wasn’t charging at me. Just tourist that kept pulling up trying to look at him. I called everyone I could think to help that bear. I sat with him for hours and no one showed up. He was huge. The one that did charge me, I ate.

Fuck. Never had to deal with bears. Thankfully. Some gators, bobcats, hogs, and coyotes… but No bears. Fuck that.

Lol honestly I’d rather deal with a bear than a gator.

Maybe that’s just because I’m used to them. We do have timberwolves here, beautiful creature, rare to see them, but awesome when you do.

Haha! I grew up in Florida. I’ll take a gator all day long. I guess it’s just what you’re used to. Like @Youts is saying.

Its getting bad in my area they keep building and they have no where to go but they need to have a bear season to take a couple out and then I could finally go hunting. I would be really happy to take one out my only thing is ive never eaten bear and I won’t kill an animal I won’t eat anyone got experience eating black bear?

I’m with you on only killing to eat. I’ve never heard of eating black bear though.

Me neither but I know that they used to have a season I didn’t know if those guys would eat them or just trophy. Im don’t want to kill for a trophy.

I’ve eaten it! It’s really tasty depending on their diet.

Best bear meat I ever had was one that ate nothing but berries, can actually give the meat a blueish color if they feed on blueberries!

I’d imagine a bear that ate trash would taste horrible. Scavengers generally don’t taste very good. Or bottom feeders like carp.

Black bears, actually the state record was killed not far from where I am.

I stand corrected, it’s a world record, 665 pounds dressed.

Black bear is good. It can be greasy but if it’s cooked right it’s great. I usually bleed mine out for about a week and salting it before processing the meat.
