The year of the Comeback!

@Poppy, I’m here… haven’t had a chance to post much since my workout last night. Hit deadlifts, last heavy week of my first 4 week cycle, and I think I’m ready for a deload… pulled 352 x 5 x 3 last night and an AMRAP @ 352 for 8 reps… after that I was pretty much spent, squats, RDL’s and rows were all very light… not to mention I had to shovel a foot of snow out of my driveway and my mile of sidewalk after the gym! I’ll post my log a little later

Shoveling snow…got to be in top 3 conditioning tools…and it’s got a purpose!!!

You got that right! It used to suck before I got my hip fixed, but now it’s great! The only thing I have to worry about is slipping on the ice and falling down

Here’s the log from the other night, like I said, nothing special, kinda the downhill slide into a deload. Tonight I’ve got bench, hopefully that goes good since I skipped my Sunday close grip workout.

Hey man. Discouraged or not you’re putting in the work and that’s positive progress. I know it may not feel like it but you’re moving forward!

Get after it brother.

Oh yeah, the Ortho was very adamant that if I ever fell down, it would more than likely result in a dislocated hip which goes straight to emergency surgery… I’ve had a few close calls…

I would have never thought that. Hmmmm. I was always under the impression that it was “better”. I’ve learned something today. I’m done…shutting brain off. Haha

Structure wise they are, mine is titanium and ceramic, with a poly ethylene gasket in between the ball and cup to act as cushion and cartilage… however stability wise they’re not what a real hip is, all the little ligaments that hold it together are gone

Hit bench last night, I didn’t take the time to rub blue heat and hot pink all over my shoulder/bicep last night and I noticed the pain in my right shoulder/biceps tendon was almost unbearable… I think this coming week for mg deload I’ll probably only hit 2 workouts, I have a weekend shutdown at a local plant that starts Friday the 5th and goes through Monday the 8th, looking at 12-16 hour days for the weekend. With the pain in my shoulder, I’m toying with the idea of doing an entire training cycle with a slingshot and seeing if that helps strengthen things at all. I’ve got a week to decide before my next offseason cycle starts, so we’ll see. Here’s my log from last night, my wife actually went to the gym with me, so my workout wasn’t quite the intensity I wanted

What worked for ME… I didn’t bench for almost a year. I worked on my weak ass overhead press and blast strap push-ups. I’ve been back at benching for about 3 months pain free.

I think your too hard on yourself about progress. Your in there and putting in time. Your body is gonna do what it’s gonna do to some extent. Just don’t push yourself to hard and get injured. How is your diet going. Is the wifey feeding you good still?

@Poppy , I’m going to make some tweaks, but I probably won’t stop benching all together, especially not if I’m going to do a push/pull meet this year.

@Rusty , thanks for the words of encouragement, I agree, I am too hard on myself, but when I hurt my hip I was near the top of my game, so it’s kind of a mental struggle in my head now… the diet is good, not sure it’s doing anything yet, but clothes are fitting differently, so we’ll see. I smoked a Boston Butt and made pulled pork today for some of my in laws…

How’s everything going with you? I’ve been following your thread, you got everyone here backing you man!

Ahhh. I forgot about your push pull!

That chunk of flesh looks delicious!

My support I am getting here is outstanding. It truly does help. Especially the accountability. I was at top of my game before injuries in September also. I am fairly new to the science behind strength training so I didn’t start from a high place but the gains came so fast. This time gonna followed @Bigmurph advice and slow down.

This is my log from my last close grip/overhead press workout. I switched up from barbell OHP to standing one arm dumbbell presses, felt MUCH better on my shoulder, although I was still getting some weird pulls in my biceps on close grips. This week I’ll be deloading, which is perfect as I have a 4 day long shutdown to run at General Mills this Fri-Mon. I may change up my plans a little and go straight into block periodization right now, I’m not quite decided yet. And now that I see my buddy @Rusty posted pictures in his cycle thread, I’m going to have to follow suit and post some here, I’ll leave the hip scar out! Haha.
