Fish Pics from Vacation!

Here are some fish pics from our successful house boating vacation. Ended up with 7 keeper rainbow trout and one big ass largemouth. Was super proud my son actually caught the bass all on his own! He was just trolling a deep diving crank bait on the opposite side of the downrigger and it just hit hit it as we were passing a point. There’s a pic of my downrigger setup and the view at 6am while fishing with my son. Last pic is how you can still easily maintain eating quality meals even on vacation (brought 8 cartons of egg whites) - bowl was cooked egg whites with avocado, and and some hot sauce and various spices/herbs, also some Greek yogurt and banana.

Already reserved a houseboat and pontoon for next year! Pretty sure this will become an annual vacation tradition, just as it was for me between the ages of 7 and 18 years old with my parents and sister.

Haha I was wondering if anyone would notice the salt gun. Picked that up recently from a gift card I had. Very effective to take down flies at ~3 feet or so. My son used it a lot when we first moved into the houseboat as the doors were open quite often when bringing in our stuff.

Yep the trout was fantastic and just melted in your mouth. My dad used to do most of the cleaning so looked up quite a few videos on the best way to do it as the are pin bones that you need to remove. Landed on gutting it first by cutting a slit along the bottom of fish and pulling everything out, then separate the bones from the meat by working my way down the side starting at the head. I removed the skin at the end for the ones we fried up and left it on for the ones I put on the grill. The skin when cooked actually tastes good, but it’s also easy to just scrape it off when eating.

Ya those pin bones get easier everytime you filet them. Still seem to miss one or two a thousand fish later. When I grill them I don’t worry about the bones just eat around them. And ya if you get the skin nice and crispy it’s awesome and quite healthy as well.
