Yeah they are definitely pricey and much more than I’d typically pay for dumbbells…it was the quick change ability that was the main thing I liked the most as well as the space saver. Typically I don’t care about that too much and only care if the weight is accurate. I do have those manual change dumbbells that work with 1 in diameter plates. Have a few 25 in plates that work with them. Just waiting on Walmart to get one more, as those 25s are just $23 bucks. Whenever I’m over there I check if they have them, but haven’t seen them lately. I think I can load my manual dumbbells to have 2 25s on each side as well as a 5 or 10, so that’s probably my best bet for doing anything above 90 lbs. The biggest downside to the new ones is that I’m very paranoid to not accidentally ding them against anything or worse drop them as I could be down dumbbell if not careful. They seem very well built, but not taking any chances.
It’s rough finding equipment during this covid crap as most places are price gouging. I believe part of the reason is there is a shortage of iron/steel due to the global effects of this pandemic. Fortunately, I finally have essentially everything I need, just waiting on the barbell plate set which have started arriving slowly in batches. I’m pretty sure the local UPS hates me and is wondering what the hell Im ordering as the boxes don’t usually state the contents…plan to give him a pretty good tip after my last batch arrives and reassure him he won’t have to worry about hauling up 100+ lb packages for awhile. LOL
