Arthritis in Right Hip

Just got back from ortho. Same dude that did surgery on my knee. His PA is a cool lady…I trust both of them immensely.

I strained my quad a couple of months ago moving heavy stuff around the garage. My (surgery) knee is good to go but my quad is still on the bubble. The pa xray’d me every which way today and apparently I have “not severe” arthritis and significant bone spurs in my right hip… the same side as quad strain.

She’s not jumping into surgery right off but suggested yoga to limber everything up.

I believe @TG spoke about it. Anyone else have any experience with it?

No squatting for a bit. Probably do some single leg (left) stuff.

She said I probably have a hip replacement in my future….

It’s actually amazing what yoga can do for us as we get older especially when we spend so much time doing the same routines our body adapts too. As part of my warm up I’m working in some yoga stretches, during workout a few as well. Always feel great afterwards.

I’m going to start yoga here in a bit. I am going to get an instructor tho. I am horrible on do it yourself with yoga. I need someone there to motivate me and correct my big ass. 🤣

It helps when you can get someone to assist you into certain positions. After a bit you can do it yourself but in the beginning you’ll think they’re fucking crazy and body doesn’t work that way lol

I have the flexibility of a I beam. In the Corps I worked on it every other day. I got out and was like fuck that. Well now years later I’m pulling the “you idiot” internal conversation. 🤣

We do a lot of basic warmup poses in Xfit like Downward Dog, Warrior, Child’s Pose, Bridge, Pigeon, Lizard, Reclined Spinal Twist, Crescent Lunge, and Camel/Cat. They make us hold them soooo long we work up a good lather before we even touch a weight or bar.

I was surfing YouTube earlier. A lot of the stuff my chiropractor has had me doing…of course as @TBU said…I’m just as slack as the day is long. I’m going to seek out an instructor and/or a class.

Big problem is deciding on what color unitard to wear…

The last PT I went to was heavy yoga focused and I was shocked at the overall difference it made in my everyday life. Much less the gym.

When I went to last check up for broken ankle. They said it was still tight. Then he checked other foot and told me never mind you have zero flexibility

I did it along with dry needling. So it was quick. Yoga and mobility in general will help, but bones spurs are bone spurs. No amount of stretch will take those bad boys out.

@Poppy, just FYI, yoga will never make those bone spurs go away and they’ll just continue to grow and dig away at the labrum in your acetabellum…. Take it from me brother. Tollerate it while you can, then get it fixed ASAP while you’re still in good shape

Yessir. Usually done minimally invasive with a scope. Small shaver inserted into the joint capsule and they shave the spurs off to create a smooth joint again.
