Diary of a middle aged, fat, broken mans comeback

This is what I like to say to myself, going backwards is bad,but still leaves room for forward progress, but going nowhere is where people get stuck, and complacent.

Definitely I can agree that my mental health is also much better from working out I have anxiety issues and it helps me alot with my problems.

You should write an introduction like your stats and age plus a little about your experience

That’s a really good quote right there I couldn’t agree more now but before reading it I would have immediately said that going backwards is not good.

Thanks buddy, I have a hard time understanding indecisiveness, my dad for instance can’t make a decision for shit, so whether it’s a major decision or a small one, he gets stuck to long tryin to figure things out, I am tooting my own horn, when I say I am a man of action, my wife is to, except she’s not a man, ha ha.

Sharp and ready to go all the time

Im a bit more of the other way and I do sometimes get stuck on decisions im actually stuck on one right now and maybe this is the sign to make a decision finally lol

Just a little update for anyone who has been following this. Today I put a bar on my back and squatted! It was nothing world beating, 95 lbs plus two EFS Black bands, with a box just above parallel, 5 sets of 10, along with 5x10 135 deadlifts… the best part was, I was able to set up and pull the slack on the deadlifts… the weeks previous to this, everything was so tight I had to grip and rip, which I hate!

That’s awesome man! Keep working, just from reading your entire log, it sounds like this has been quite a journey and it takes a lot of drive to get back in there and squat/deadlift no matter the weight!

Just a little update… found a new gym, a good buddy and old training partner of mine opened a powerlifting gym not too far from where I live, invited me to come check it out. Come to find out he’s in the same boat I was, and needs a hip replacement. I worked out there tonight for the first time, my first “real” workout since the covid stuff started… was a great workout, felt great to be in a strictly strength gym again… as for my hip, all is EXTREMELY well for 5 months out… I squatted tonight, just the bar, but for the first time with no box, it felt great!

I have seen this alot from members on multiple forums over the years now talking about hip replacement surgery when they are powerlifters.
Is there any protection that a powerlifter uses to protect the hips?

Im also glad to hear you getting back at it brother

You ask a good question, it seems to be a common flaw amongst powerlifters. Equipment (squat suits, deadlifters, briefs) are supposed to take the brunt of the force, but my buddy is a single ply equipped lifter, so who knows??

Made it back to the gym today… everything was felling good, was able to work up to sets of 8 @ 55 kilos on squats, depth was close, but not really my full concern right now. My left hamstring (side my replacement was on) did tighten up pretty good. I also worked up to 65 kilos 3x10 deadlifts off the floor. Threw in some other shit just going through the motions, figured out that the reverse hyper is my new best friend! I think about another week of just kind of going through the motions and I will actually program a little… either conjugate or the cube. My buddy that owns the gym has a 450 lb tire in the back, I can’t quite get low enough to get my fingers under it, that’s the next goal…

Here’s a good article, a multi part article, about injury in powerlifting…
