3 hour ? Extensive damage, does that mean repair to the socket? Or just reattach tendons. It’s been three years now I just don’t remember how long it took. Should have mentioned to double up on the opioids for the first 24 hours in preperation of the nerve block wearing off. You’ll know when to put the opioids down, it will slow your bowl movements down to nothing, that my friend is when! When I left the operating room they gave me a CD disk of my procedure. What I later found out was in case the surgon got sued for some mistake, he’d have the CD for evidence.

@Kicksave, I had two rotator cuff repairs on my right shoulder within 12 months of each other about 20 years ago when I was in college. The biggest thing that helped me was starting to work my ROM immediately the day following surgery. I was on the track team at the college I went to, threw shot and discus, and luckily I had access to athletic trainers. One of them is my chiropractor now, he helped me
With ROM other than just the simple wall walk exercises and we added in some light stretching. Unfortunately the team doctors cleared me too early to start training again, and I had to go through everything a second time! Best advice I can give is to get your range of motion back as quick (and safely) as you can, don’t risk re injury, but dont be afraid to move your arm a little. If the ROM comes back the strength will follow

Iv had to labrum surguries on my right shoulder. The good part about being a hockey player is i dont have to lift my arm high to play. But seriously what every one said pt after or you lose mobility and that never comes back. I cant do anything over head any more, military press i need a slight incline. The muscle comes back fast though. I never thought i would lift like i am now after the way it was desrroyed the second time.

Surgery was scheduled for 2 hours, Dr said the damage was worse than the MRI reported. No opioids(or pain killers of any kind)since 6am. So, just a 12 hour stretch of discomfort, seem to be ok now. Yes, I haven’t been to the bathroom since Monday, but, I’m on keto, so, this isn’t all that uncommon, and no discomfort of which to speak in that regard.

One of the reasons I am changing my insurance is so I can do PT 2 or 3 times a week and have it covered. I am surprised I made it this far with out any major joint surgeries. Other than a few pins in my hand for a boxer break a few years ago. (Sometimes the rage is real.)
I appreciate all of the suggestion and you guys are offering.

Got off opioids after 24 hours. Still a lot of discomfort, but, it’s just that, discomfort. The real pain was only about 12 hours after the nerve block wore off. Moving it around much more in the sling. Sleeping is still a challenge, but, I just watch a lot of TV and sleep when I can, catch up on sleep down the road, I guess. Went down in the basement this morning. Got on the bike to see if I could do it, seems like a go. Grabbed some small dumbbells and the bands I have attached to the squat rack, tried out some one armed exercises. Seems like I should be able to pick some of that up. Daughter caught me down there and called me wife, so, I’ll have to wait another week for that. Thanks for asking, bro. Got all the nasty dressing off on Friday, pretty nasty shit. I have 5 holes in my shoulder, I guess that’s what happens when they perform 3 procedures simultaneously.
